"That's not fair,"
"No, it's not. It sucks ass." he commented, smirking as he sensed Oliver was pouting again and pulled him closer. The man sighed, giving Oliver's neck a firm bite and nuzzling him once again.
"My birthday? Ugh, I'm not a kid, Dodger."
"Well, according to the damn law you still are until March," he answered bitterly. He felt bad that he was disappointing Oliver, but he also didn't want to be arrested and taken away from the boy because he indulged Oliver's wants and needs all the time when it came to things like this. The next step for them was a big one, and he wasn't going to do it until both of them were ready and until Oliver was old enough.
"Alright, well how about this. We'll whatever you want, whenever you want-within reason and NOT what you wanted me to do just now-and when your birthday rolls around we'll do it. Doesn't matter what time, just wake me up and remind me and I'll do what you want, but in order for me to indulge you-ya gotta indulge me. Got it?" he asked, nuzzling Oliver's neck again as he pulled the boy into his lap. The man smirked as he nibbled on Oliver's earlobe, pulling the smaller male closer to coax him into agreeing to his terms-even though Jack felt he was being rather reasonable.
"I know you're not a kid, but I can't risk it... I don't want to lose you just as much as you don't want to lose me... Please understand, I feel bad denying you but I don't want to end up far away from you with no way to get back."
Jack snuggled closer to the boy in his arms, stroking Oliver's hair lightly as he kissed the back of the boy's head. He hoped that Oliver wouldn't hate him for it, but he knew the boy would thank him in the long run. Geez, that sounds like something his father would say. Speaking of his parents, did he call his mother today? The man grumbled as he remembered he didn't and would most likely get the guilt trip from his mother and Oliver for not calling earlier, but he was.... Distracted... at the moment and didn't want to call his mother when he was cuddling with Oliver. Cuz then he would end up having to deal with his mother's bubbly questions about whether or not he was going to propose to Oliver and he'd most likely have his nosy father on the other line about ready to disown him when he found out Jack was in love with another male.
The man smiled as he kept Oliver close, imagining the reaction the boy would have had if he'd been listening into that imaginary conversation. Oh the flustered looks he'd receive from the boy would be priceless. "So, do we have a deal, love?"

slow it down, make it stopbefore my heart is going to pop• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • "Well, according to the damn law you still are until March."
Oliver felt a slight irritation at "the law". What kind of stupid idea what that, huh? God, when did he turn into such a sex-crazed maniac? The boy flushed, his lips pouting once again. Granted, he might have looked at Jack a little longer than was strictly necessary, and at other times fantasized about what the man's mouth would taste like among other things, and maybe sometimes daydreamed during class to the point he couldn't hear the teacher calling his name--
Okay, so maybe he was kind of thinking about sex more than he'd like to admit, but maybe that just helped his internal argument against the law! Teenagers were thinking about it so much, why not just let them? The blonde relented as he felt himself wilt in rationality. He understood the laws put in place, mainly to protect the "innocence of the nation" or something along those lines. It still wasn't fair, though.
At Dodger's proposition however, Oli perked up considerably, after being pulled into the other man's lap of course. He couldn't see Jack's face from this position, but he could just hear the grin on his face. He knew the older man was just as anxious to...do that as he was (maybe the fact that he couldn't say it meant he wasn't ready), but what Dodge decided was usually right. He thought things through, usually, and didn't like to act before he thought during serious situations. Inwardly, the boy felt quite touched that he was making such a big deal about this, making sure he was ready and old enough so there wouldn't be any complications. And while Oliver was inexperienced, he wasn't particularly naive. He knew a lot of men in their 20's who wouldn't care about that sort of law and would and have had sex with girls and boys under 18. It must mean a lot then, for the man to put off this occasion for so long. So, with a dramatic sigh, Oli turned around, making sure to adopt a forlorn expression.
"I guess that'd be okay," he replied, pouting his lips. From this position, he was definitely straddling Dodger, which caused a slight reddening of his cheeks. He ignored it however, and wrapped his arms around the man's neck loosely, leaning forward until their chests were flushed together. Bringing his lips to Jack's ear, he exhaled, very gently, onto it and spoke. "But I wanna know," he whispered softly, "If you've called your mom today."

"I guess that'd be okay,"
"Only okay?" he chuckled, holding Oliver closer and blinking when he straddled him on his lap. He smirked when he felt Oliver pull himself as close as he could to the man and he felt his own cheeks heat up. He raised an eyebrow at the lips near his ear and turned an even deeper shade of red as he felt Oliver whisper into it.
"But I wanna know,"
A raise of an eyebrow from the teacher.
"If you've called your mom today."
WHOMP!
Jack landed on his side, grumbling into his mattress as he had fallen over from the question. He should've seen that coming. The man started muttering in annoyance as he peeked up to see Oliver still looking at him. "I don' wanna!" he whined, pulling himself up from his awkward half sitting-half lying down position and rolled over onto his belly. "I'll do it laterrrrrr."
What was he, six? Even though he didn't want to call his mother, he knew Oliver would talk him into it eventually. The man watched the other boy out of the corner of his eye closely as he continued to mutter to himself. Well that definitely killed the mood. Darn Oliver.

slow it down, make it stopbefore my heart is going to pop• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • With a slight cry of surprise, Oli found himself on his side, lying on the bed beside Jack. The sheer childishness caught him off guard and, in that surprise, laughed.
"I don' wanna! I'll do it laterrrrrr."
"You have to do it eventually, you know." Glancing at the clock, the boy noted the time. With a quirk of his lips, he relented. "She probably won't be up this early, though.
The blonde settled down, laying his head on the pillow, and smiled somewhat sadly towards Jack. "She does care about you, you know. Is it that hard to call her?" If he could, he'd call his mom everyday, every hour. He'd ask about her day, encouraging her to make more friends and if she had a regular job, oh boy, he'd be so happy. From what he could recall, the woman always was interested in beauty products. Hair, skin, nails, you name it. Granted, and Oliver instantly wilted, that might be due to her chosen (though to be honest, she never wanted to) profession.. Maybe something more reserved then, like a teacher. Smiling, the boy inwardly nodded his head. The chance to look after and educate children again. That privilege was taken away from her far too soon.
Biting his lip, Oliver wondered what it'd be like if he still lived with her. He'd been over, in his head, the countless ways he could have gone about that. Wearing heavier clothes to hide his skinny body maybe, drinking more caffeine so he didn't look so tired all the time. The constant moans accompanied by the bed rhythmically hitting the wall in the next room served as an alarm clock that never seemed to stopped.
This all took him back to the conversation at hand and, inwardly blaming his overactive brain, the boy focused his eyes back on Dodger. He had a question floating around in his brain, nudging at his mouth insistently. But was it too personal? He didn't want to bother the older man with sentimental questions about parents. But he was really curious..
So, swallowing his courage, he tentatively voiced his thoughts. "Hey Dodger," he began quietly, fingers fiddling nervously, "What..what's it like? Having a mom like that?"

The man buried his face in his sheets yet again, muttering to himself about the evils of calling his mother. He didn't want to call the woman who just let his father throw him out. Even though he promised Oliver he'd try to reconnect, what his parents did to him still hurt.
"You have to do it eventually, you know."
More muttering under his break from Jack.
"She probably won't be up this early, though."
"Good, cuz I'm busy," he answered, rolling over onto his back and pulling Oliver into his arms once he felt the blonde lay down beside him. He placed his head on the boy's and sighed as Oliver continued.
"She does care about you, you know. Is it that hard to call her?"
"Yeah.... Yeah it is, kid." he answered quietly, staring up at the ceiling as his arm that wrapped around Oliver reached up slightly to stroke the boy's hair. His parents were not a very easy topic to discuss with anyone, even Oliver. His father threw him out when he wouldn't go into the business world and cut him off, his mother just let it happen. Jack had been on his own since he was eighteen years old, it was too late to go back and attempt to live up to his father's standards. Hell, he hadn't even heard about his father from his mother in awhile, why should he care? Was the man even still alive? He had no idea.
"Hey Dodger,"
"Hm?" he asked, snapped out of his thoughts by Oliver's quiet question. He looked down at the boy and gave his head a quick peck, wondering what Oliver was going to ask, noting the boy's nervous fiddling of his fingers.
"What..what's it like? Having a mom like that?"
Jack blinked. Well that was an odd question. The man sighed, leaning back onto the pillows and thinking about it for a bit. After a minute he sighed, blowing a strand of hair from his face as he looked back down at Oliver to answer his question. "It's... A little frustrating... I mean, it seems that she wants to talk to me and all, but when my dad kicked me out all that time ago it seemed like she wanted nothing to do with me, y'know? She just... Didn't try to make contact with me, and when I made contact with her-per your request-she's been clinging ever since. I hate clinginess. I just... I dunno." he sighed, burying his face into Oliver's hair a bit. But then he remembered-what he was going to tell the kid after he came home from school.
"Oh yeah, I got somethin' for ya. Early Christmas present, come with me," he grinned, getting up and pulling Oliver with him. He placed his hands over the boy's eyes once they both were up and led him down the hallway towards the room next to Dodger's. He had been using it as an office, but then he remembered he had another room for that, and so instead he took all his crap out and made it into a bedroom for the other male-so he wouldn't have to use the couch. After the man led Oliver into the room he let go, wrapping his arms around Oliver's waist from behind and leaning against him with a smile. "Surprise"

slow it down, make it stopbefore my heart is going to pop• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • When Oliver felt those warm arms wrap around him and bring him bodily closer, he let a happy smile settle on his lips. While doing.. other stuff with Jack was nice (amazing), to be held like this and know that he's safe was something different altogether. To be honest, he hadn't cuddled in a long time. Physical affection was something the boy just wasn't used to, as was obvious when he first began living with the man. A friendly ruffle of his hair more often than not upset him and on the odd occasion he'd find Jack's arm thrown casually around his shoulder, he found himself almost dumbfounded. His prepubescent and teen years (and if he's being honest, most of his childhood too) wasn't filled with tangible displays of love. Over the year he'd resided with this man though, he seemed to grow used to it and, now, even crave it. He had a feeling he'd be seeking out more contact between the two of them now more than ever.
I just... I dunno."
The blonde honestly didn't know how to reply to that. There seemed to be a major difference in Jack and Oliver's parenting. Where he liked to think his mother did everything she could to care about him (even if that meant letting him go, because she must have known he'd better off, right?), Dodger's own seemed almost negligent. Maybe she didn't know what to do at the time, though that really didn't excuse her behaviour. She must have had a choice to argue with her husband and not let the man get kicked out, right?
He wasn't really given the chance to comment on this though. Oliver felt Dodger bury his face in his own hair, squirming slightly at the ticklish feeling, but the older male seemed to remember something almost immediately.
"Oh yeah, I got somethin' for ya. Early Christmas present, come with me."
Any response was instantly swept from Oliver's mind. "A present? For me?" he replied, an excited grin tugging at his lips. Eagerly, he followed Dodger off the bed, but soon saw, or rather, didn't see, anything. Mouth forming a surprised "O", he turned his head slightly to the side before his mind caught up. Giggling softly, he let himself be led forward, careful to mind his steps and being sure to feel Jack's warm body behind him. Within a few short moments the boy's sight was restored and, blinking, the room came into focus. A whispered "Surprise" followed by strong arms slipping around his waist went somewhat unnoticed by him as he viewed the bedroom in awe. "I..have a room?" he whispered softly, a disbelieving smile spreading across his face, "I have a room. I have..a room." Oliver hadn't had his own room for years. Housing was in short supply at the children's home, and more than once he had to share beds with other boys. It went without saying to have an entire space for one person was nigh unheard of around there. So to be presented with a quaint, comfy bedroom all for just him was a huge privilege. Turning around with a happy squeal, Oli stood on his tip-toes and kissed Jack quickly on the lips. "Thank you so much!" he said enthusiastically once they'd parted, "This means so much, oh God, thank you!" Wrapping his arms around Dodger's shoulders, he hugged the man tightly, burying his face in the crook of his neck. But a sudden thought came, unbidden to be sure, to the boy's mind. Smiling secretly, he learned up again to speak softly into the taller man's ear. "You said there's other stuff we could do," he began slowly, "Before my birthday, that is.
