"A greedy, ugly, psychotic monster, with razor sharp claws. Dripping fangs, with nine lives, all of them horrible." - Dodger
NAME: Oliver Clay Young NICKNAMES: Oli, Olipop, "kid" AGE: 17 BIRTHDAY: March 27th ORIENTATION: Questioning NATIONALITY: American OCCUPATION: High school student, looking for job. PLAYED BY: Dylan Forsberg DISNEY: Oliver and Company USER GROUP: Childlike
PERSONALITY !
NAIVE! While Oliver is indeed quite intelligent, it doesn't take a lot to convince the boy of something. In this respect, he's gullible and all too willing to go along with someone. This has led him into problematic situations in the past, and make no mistake has made him more wary of people. Still, when he finds someone to be confident and friendly, at least on the surface, he's prone to trusting them. This has been obvious by his friendship with Jack, whom he somewhat idolizes and trusts explicitly. PLAYFUL! When Oli feels comfortable with someone, he loves to make jokes and behave childishly. He's quite rambunctious and enjoys having fun, and as such values his friendships quite highly. He's something of a handful though, and is prone to getting a little too distracted by the sensationalizing of things. For example, when excited over something, there's usually nothing else he can think of. If there's a trip planned, or a new song by a favourite artist, Oliver's attention is centered on that and rarely diverts to anything else, even important matters. EAGER! The kid loves to please. If he's accepted into a group of friends and is expected to do something, he'll do it. As such, he's an easy target for bullying or manipulation because, even if he morally thinks something might be wrong, he'll reluctantly ignore it to fit in. Deep down, he's a sweetheart, but Oliver will do a lot of things to be liked, even at his own expense so he won't be shunned. This no doubt stems from his early years, and it something Jack has been trying help him overcome. DEFIANT! Despite his go-getter and somewhat innocent demeanour, Oli won't take things sitting down from people he dislikes. Though there's a number of people he's afraid of, the boy won't blindly obey or listen to those who've done him or his loved ones wrong. In this respect, he's quite courageous. Another good example of his non compliant attitude is the instant bristling he's prone to when told he's cute or innocent. Oliver doesn't like being reminded of his shortcomings, he wants to make a name for himself as brave and confident. Unfortunately, the way he's easily prodded into an emotional reaction stands in his way, much to the amusement of others.
QUIRKS: Twirling his hair when troubled, spacing (ie, inner monologuing), taking in strays.
LIKES: david bowie (huge fan), kittens, pleasing others, autumn, daydreaming, fingerpainting, strawberries, old english novels, christmas, jack. DISLIKES: rain, baths (showers are substantially better), his old orphanage, church, vegetables, the police, teachers, authority figures in general, bullies, enemies.
HISTORY !
Oliver Young grew up an only child in Los Angeles, CA. His father, a man he doesn't and has no desire to know, left before he was born, leaving him with his somewhat negligent (but no less loving) mother. Due to her fruitless attempts to hold down jobs for herself and her son, and no college degree, it was common for the woman to bring home men at night, often participating in unsafe practices.
It was common for the boy to attempt to dissuade his mother's clients from coming back, often adopting an obviously false bullying and tough air. More than once Oli had gotten nothing in return but an amused chuckle and a pat on the head, and twice a black eye when he tried to put up a fight. As a child, there wasn't anything he could do but tell the police, but he was smart enough to know he wouldn't be able to live there anymore. If making his mother's life easier was one of Oliver's top priorities, continuing to live with her as an anchor was the most important one.
The home they lived in was nothing more than a shabby trailer, surviving off cheap food and stolen electricity. Without a steady job, there was no way to fully nourish both of them, it didn't take long for the woman to grow ill. In time, she was incapable of using her own means of income and it didn't take long after that for Oliver to be taken by child services, due to obvious signs of malnourishment at school.
At age eleven, the boy was settled in an orphanage, but it didn't take long for he and numerous other children to be shipped to various other homes, and soon enough Oli couldn't remember which way was home anymore.
When he hit 15, the idea of escaping from his orphanage became an idea he couldn't seem to shake. He tried reminding himself it was stupid, and where was he going to go anyway? He had no money, and absolutely no way to get back to his mom. But the notion stuck with him for an entire year.
During an outing with the children, the boy saw a chance and instinctively took it. As was expected, it didn't take long for him to become lost and, while sleeping in allies without a warm home, was often bullied. While physical confrontations were few and far between (and were never sexual in nature), a lot of the boy's recourses were stolen right under his nose.
One evening, Oliver was caught pickpocketing from a group of teenagers around his age, quite clumsily in fact. It almost wasn't a surprise for him when he was caught and, in retaliation, the teens made quick work of apprehending him. After acquiring only a few bruises and cuts however, Jack, who had been passing by, effectively sent them on their way.
From then on, he moved in with the older man and, while he looks up to him as a mentor, perhaps an older brother, he's been getting questioning feelings whenever he thinks about Jack.
