"I, uh, I have no idea what came over me. " - Buzz Lightyear
NAME: Tyler James Year NICKNAMES: "Buzz", Ty AGE: Twenty-four BIRTHDAY: April 18th ORIENTATION: Heterosexual NATIONALITY: Caucasian OCCUPATION: Crime Scene Investigator; Forensic Scientist PLAYED BY: Luke Grimes DISNEY: Buzz Lightyear - Toy Story USER GROUP: Hero or Heroine
PERSONALITY !
DETERMINATION! Tyler was brought up on very strong moral values, and one of them, is never giving up. This is something that he has kept with him throughout his life, and he doesn't intent on trashing them anytime soon. By staying focused, and on target, he has been able to transition into the 'adult' world without too many struggles; he made sure to find a job before he moved, and worked hard to keep it. By no means did he like it, but it was something that needed to be done, so he could keep his apartment, live where he wanted to live, and save up some more for college. His earnings combined with that was already saved up via his parents, by the age of nineteen he was able to attend the university of his choice, for a degree in astronomy. When he sets his mind on something, or, he has a challenge presented to him, Tyler will do everything in his power to accomplish whatever he needs to do, no matter how big, or small.
LOYALTY! The world is an unpredictable place as it is, and with people turning their backs on each other only make it worse. His family, even in his teens, was very tight-knit; at least every few weeks, the family (including extended) would get together to eat, play games, and simply bask in each other's presence. This has helped make him fiercely loyal to his family, friends, and anyone else who manages to become close to him. Being there for the people around him is something he has no problem with - if someone called in in the dead of night, needing a ride home from a party they didn't feel comfortable at, or, if they just needed someone to be with, and talk to, he would be that person in a heartbeat.
CONFIDENT! Most young men, and otherwise, these days do have quite a lot of confidence in them, and Tyler is no exception. He prides himself on being fairly outgoing, and holding himself with a proper attitude on outlook in life. However, occasionally his confidence and pride can make him stubborn to certain things, until he is, one-hundred percent and without a doubt, proven wrong. At the very least, he isn't upset when he is proven wrong, but it does through him off for a bit. On certain subjects, he is more then happy to be proven otherwise, but on others, it stings, just a little, before he can move on.
OUTGOING! Tyler isn't the type of person to just be a wallflower; while he may not be the most outgoing person in the world, he certainly has a way of making his presence known, intentionally or not. An unintentionally suave comment here, or a precise, but calm correction there, and making his opinions known when it counts are things he never seems to miss out on. His mind is almost like a computer, picking up on certain social ques (and others, not at all); it's happened before, where he's gotten into a full blown discussion, with himself, on the principles of astronomy, and gotten a half an hour through before realizing no one around really wanted to hear it - but they did, because they were his friends. He also isn't one to sit back and let the people close to him participate in potentially harming activities, and will speak up about it right away, as well as try to help in any way possible.
EASILY EMBARRASSED! Yup. The confident young man, who prides himself in family and loyalty, as well as friends...is quite easily embarrassed. Not everyone can make him embarrassed, at least, not exceedingly so, but it is something that happens from time to time - more often then not, whenever he is around his female companions.
QUIRKS:
"BZZ"! Although it doesn't happen too much these days, Tyler used to be fond of making the "bzz" noise that is used to signify the sound a bee makes. This is how he got his nickname "Buzz", courtesy of his mother.
Wiggly! Tyler can do this funny, wiggly thing with his eyebrows, where it looks like they're doing the wave.
Dancing! Not many people are aware of this, but Tyler is actually quite a good dancer - at least, when it comes to things like the paso doble, the tango, and salsa. However, don't count on getting him to admit that any time soon.
Blush & Stammer ! In accordance with easily being embarrassed, it's been spotted that he actually turned a bit red because of it before. Also, when nervous, he's been known to stammer slightly with his words; just enough to know it's there.
LIKES: + science + things that have to do with outer space + the law + exercise + blueberry ice cream + the color red + going on 'adventures' + being with friends + trying to figure things out + puzzles + video games + books + taking things apart, and putting them back together + chilling out every once in a while + things that glow in the dark
DISLIKES: + outright rudeness + being rushed + too bright colors - like a vibrant yellow, or pink + being proven wrong + liars + betrayal + unnecessary violence + animal cruelty + abuse
HISTORY !
Tyler James Year was born into a fairly normal family, as far as professions go - his father was a very successful mechanic, who was often called away to help build and design new models of cars; and his mother was a professor for a community college. However, they were a very tight family group, and were always very supportive of each other. Although they wanted the very best for him, they made it clear they would be proud no matter what he choose to do in life.
Growing up with such a vast range in talents at home, he picked up a few things from both of them; a bit of knowledge on cars, as well as how to problem-solve and put something back together, even if it was already taken apart by someone else. He also learned quite a lot on solar system from his mother. From a very early age, he was always very interested in space - it was so vast, and big, and people knew so little about it. Frankly, the whole thing was fascinating, and he wanted nothing more then to bury himself in it completely.
"Space, eh? So, you wanna be an astronaut?"
"..Well, maybe. One day."
"Then you better do good in school, kiddo - to make sure you have the chance, if you decide you want to."
Tyler had always done fairly well in school, but his father's words made him reinforce his good habits, and try ten times harder in school. Truthfully, he wasn't sure if he wanted to be the one to travel into space, but if he turned out wanting too, he wasn't going to let something so silly as a grade point average stand in his way.
Before graduating high school he was already job hunting so he could live on his own while going to the college on his choice -- Thomas College, all the way in Fantasia City. It would be a big leap, and a big change, but he was ready for it. Although he was going to school there for astronomy, because of the prominent (though, perhaps not any more so then any other city) seedy business going on in the town, he also took a vested interest in law enforcement. Being torn between the worst feeling ever. Before the second year of college was out, one of his professors suggested that he combine his two likes - science, and law enforcement, and pursue something in crime scene investigation; working in the labs, solving and piecing together the crimes, as well as pursuing suspects.
It meant leaving his infinite love for outer space behind, but it was something he was willing to give up, in order to have a much more fulfilling career. With a confident heart he switched majors to forensic science. Since graduation, he has been working quite closely with the local law enforcement, as well as any acronym based groups that require his assistance.
SAMPLE !
”Oh, Perdy-dear, you silly little thing; there’s no need to be so coy.”
Mum’s voice never failed to fill her head with little tid-bits she knew the woman would say; except, she was being entirely incorrect. She wasn’t attempting to be coy, or any manner of the word – simply…reserved. While natural curiosity was biting at her heels for the young fellow, she wasn’t simply going to follow on that impulse without a bit of an informal investigation, of course. No tricky questions or tests; just observation. A simple, safe, humble observation before engaging herself further then she already was. There wasn’t a law against that, was there? She thought not.
“Oh, no it’s quite small, nothing to worry about at all.” The least she could do was put his gentleman-like worries at ease before going off on her own to watch his behavior, reactions, and so-forth. “Right then, at least we’re on the same page, now, aren’t we?” In fact, by the time she’d picked her seat and started to flip to the opening of the book, she didn’t feel the pesky sting anymore; it was now at the back of her mind.
Good riddance, too!
The familiar words rang in her ears as the young man’s voice, yet again, cut through the natural solemn silence of the library; only this time, it did not startle her. She was half expecting it – or, perhaps she was half hoping for it? Either way, it was quite welcome, and it certainly drew her attention away from the novel. “You’re quite a good line-reader, I see. A very clear, strong voice, of course; well committed to memory. Have you ever been in any theater productions, or, could it be you are just naturally talented?”
A slender eyebrow rose to show her gentle and genuine curiosity, as she adjusted her seating, legs crossing in a very lady-like manner at the ankle. For the time being, the book was abandoned, and she set it pages down, on her lap. Anyone could recite lines, but, it was easy to tell he may have actually enjoyed, and very much understood, the words; not only that particular speech, but, that of the book in it’s entirety.
“If I didn’t know any better myself, I would say you have some fabricated your whole demeanor to liven up your stay here any way possible – however, I do know better, as any true London lady should.” Briefly, her eyes squinted; not because she couldn’t see, but because she was trying endlessly to try and fit his face. It was more and more familiar the more she looked at it, but with so much having gone on the passed few weeks, her mind was taken over by other things for too long. “I do say, it’s the strangest thing….I feel as though I know you.”
Short, a bit curly, dark hair; defined eyebrows; fairly defined features; beautiful light brown eyes; for Perdy, it was almost an insult to her own propriety that she could not, out right at least, place this boy. “For whatever reason, when I look at you, the name Martha comes to mind, quite clearly, actually.” Usually, when one kept repeating something, whether in there minds our out loud, an epiphany of sorts was bound to occur. Ideally, it happened on that same day, but occasionally, it took a while for the subconscious to catch up with the conscious aspect of one’s active mind. Pushing back everything from these last few weeks – the letters, the packing, the stress – she hoped it would help in proving she wasn’t going mad. She was far too young, and simply did not have the luxury, for such a thing.
Then, like a bolt of lightening, it all came back to her; although work had been something she tried to filter out, it was in fact, the pinnacle of it all. Or, at the very least, how it all began. She sat up straighter, and placed the book on the armrest, to avoid having it fall as she leaned over in emphasis. “I do know you!” She proclaimed, in a hushed tone, so as not to draw too much attention, put to express her excitement nonetheless. “I helped you pick out Martha – a Sheepdog, is she not?” By this point, she was more then just a little proud of herself, and a delighted smile spread across her face.
The expression didn’t last too long, as a faint, but distinct, glare took over her features not too long after. “But…you, oh, you stopped phoning me, you rascal.” Briefly, it looked as though she was going to reach over for the book and beat him with it – lightly, of course – but, she didn’t, and instead crossed her arms over her chest. He wasn’t the only one at fault; she had stopped as well, and work, while a valid excuse, still wasn’t a very good one, and she knew it.
“I certainly didn’t expect to run into you again, here, of all the places in the world.”
