"there's no evil scheme you wouldn't concoct. no depravity you wouldn't commit. you, professor, are none other than a foul stenchus rodentus, commonly known as a... sewer rat!" - basil
NAME: Parker David Ratigan. NICKNAMES: He often times only goes by his last name, but he certainly won't correct a student who refers to him as "Professor Ratigan." AGE: Twenty-five. BIRTHDAY: June 4th. ORIENTATION: Experimental. Parker has no time for foolish things like this. NATIONALITY: English. OCCUPATION: A graduate student, Parker is working to further his knowledge of engineering. He's a Teaching Assistant in the meantime. PLAYED BY: Zachary Quinto. DISNEY: Ratigan - The Great Mouse Detective. USER GROUP: Villain.
PERSONALITY !
FLASHY! There is no doubt in his mind that Parker deserves to be anything less than the best, and he often tends to come across as loud and gaudy. Therefore, he tends to do things that are often seen as over-the-top in an attempt to show everyone that he is a big deal. He has no restrain in showing off his wealth or possessions, and will spend and spend in an attempt to impress people and make himself feel cool. Though he can be very in-your-face about anything, Parker tends to place an extra spin on it. Sometimes this is interpreted as an attempt to gain attention or praise, as he attempts to make himself appear high quality and important. He is always walking around, making exaggerated motions and acting as if he really is somebody. His personality can be just as large as those watches he likes to wear or those cars he likes to drive. Often times, Parker is interpreted as spoiled and ridiculous, and he sometimes appears to have no sense of money. He is dramatic in terms of what he does, always going full out and never settling to leave ends untied and disorganized. ARROGANT! As already stated, Parker thinks he's the best damn thing out there, and it is not difficult to figure this out. He has a right little ego going on. It may manifest in him making condescending comments, as if his opinion is the only one that matters. It may show through during a class, when someone asks a ridiculous question. He tends to not realize that others are better than him. Parker likes to go with a "my way or the highway" sort of structure, calling the shots and rapidly attacking those who don't approve. He tends to have a negative viewpoint on those who, well, aren't him. He can be extremely condescending. Occasionally, Parker lapses into a sort of baby talk approach to handling other people. He thinks he can do whatever he wants, and honestly could care less if it's true or not. He thinks of people more in terms of minions than friends, and is never one to stop talking about himself. Vain is also a word that could describe him, constantly fretting about himself. COMPETITIVE! Parker will establish very on in contact that he is competitive. He absolutely despises losing, and absolutely adores winning. Of course, it will take quite a lot for him to believe he had truly lost. It takes quite a lot for that insane ego to deflate. Despite this, he views everything as a challenge in which he must prove why he is the better person. Even in grade school, he was trying to run faster than everyone else and memorize more vocabulary words than the boys he sat with. He will be the first to have his papers graded, use tricks to ensure his students receive the highest grades, and show up to the professor's office first thing in the morning with coffee. He does not like to be outwitted and he certainly does not like to be taken for a slacker. Parker will do virtually anything to ensure that he is in favor of those who matter, such as those who are giving him grades for his research, or to ensure that he is able to be viewed higher than his peers, such as in terms of dedication and intellect. He will stop at nothing to best everyone around him, only adding to that already-high opinion of himself. SARCASTIC! Do not be surprised if any sort of rude remark finds its way out of Parker's mouth. He had a horrible censor. Of course, he would rarely directly call you a fool or make fun of you. It takes an intelligent or cultured mind to realize that Parker's condescending form of communication is prominently sarcasm. He won't tell you that you're a disgrace to your face – not unless you anger him drastically – but he may make a snide comment. His sense of superiority often allows him to make acidic comments, often questioning others in a way that is most aggravating. He would rather his voice drip icicles and skepticism than acknowledge that maybe you truly know what you're talking about. Once more, his arrogance comes into play, as he often will put others down with a comment rather than simply let things slide. He uses his words as a weapon, often to make himself feel more high and mighty than those who are around him. He loves to twist words of others around, often with a smirk firmly in place on his face. SHORT-TEMPERED! He is certainly a drama king, turning everything into a huge deal. Nothing is ever seen as insignificant in his eyes, and he is willing to freak out for quite some time over the slightest thing. It takes barely any trigger for Parker to go from an easygoing or calm fellow to a ball of rage. This isn't just a glare across the room, either. When he gets angry, he goes full out. He will raise his voice, threaten, and possibly even attack the other person. It honestly depends on what they go. If they use the word "rat" in the same sentence in which they mistake him for a student, expect to get pinned against the wall with one angry man attempting to strangle you. Though he knows many legal limits, there have been a few incidents in which he is infuriated. However, these fits tend to not last long, instead fizzling out and allowing him to mellow after only a few moments. Still, don't be fooled. They may not last long, but Parker is certainly willing to lose his logic if one offends him enough.
QUIRKS: He is prone to chuckling, and is even one of those fellows who will laugh at his own awful jokes. He also tends to go from dramatic emotional levels - screaming rage to affectionate compassion - in an instant. He absolutely detests the word "rat." He is extremely nitpicky when it comes to his appearance and hygeine, often washing his hands more often than necessary or wearing a tie when he doesn't need to. Very rarely is he seen without a smug smirk on his face.
LIKES: Winning, proving his superiority, when people mistakenly refer to him as "Professor," money, snappy clothing, his awful jokes, cigarettes, reading, glasses, sunglasses, Rube Goldberg machines, rain, being in positions of power, having seniority, daydreaming, math, cats, people who allow him to walk over them. DISLIKES: Losing, losing money, being mistaken for an undergraduate student, being bested, being spoken down to, rats, dogs, children, children's toys, incompetant students, incompetant peers, losing his cool, extremely warm weather, extremely casual clothing, people who repeat themselves constantly, unfaithful people, not having his way, english courses, soft science students and lecturers.
HISTORY !
It wasn't necessarily a rough neighborhood in which Parker grew up. In fact, to say it was average was to be a bit modest. The elaborate homes were decorated with only the finest possessions the owners could purchase. They were designed to make the families inside appear more powerful, more wealthy. There was always a house on the corner in which they didn't need to establish themselves. Parker did not live in this home. He always figured they could bulldoze it down, replace it with a cardboard shack, and still come across as big. It was the oldest son of this home with whom he interacted, Parker being the youngest of three children. Parker and this boy were at first the best of friends, always romping about the yard or messing with servants in the house on the corner. Neighbors figured that the boys would remain friends, but things began to change. People began to grow. Things that were not rough before became rough. Parker's father lost his job and his oldest sister began sneaking out of the house to do as she pleased. Hard times began to settle over the block, and his relationship to the house on the corner faltered and became strained.
His family was quickly losing money.
They needed a solution.
If one were to trace Parker's family tree, they would find all sorts of nefarious characters. Thieves. Murderers. Spies. Crime ran deep in the family veins, but of course, nobody ever really told him. They never found it important. It was only when his father's solution became scamming people out of money did Parker really figure anything out. When his father began to have to spend massive work days attempting to gain money, things really began to change. His sister was sneaking out even more. One day, she just never came home. His father began to take to alcohol. His mother became frantic, and feared the worst. Later police reports would claim that his oldest sister ran away and married a much older man, before she vanished once more. The family dynamic shifted even more, causing discord and chaos. Parker was forced to go on a couple of jobs with his father, and only grew to resent his family. They were supposed to be wealthy and beautiful and perfect, not ripping at the seams. He was disgusted, honestly, that they couldn't be like the house on the corner.
When it came time for him to go on to university, Parker knew he wanted to get away from the family. His father had eventually found a job, as did his mother, and things had begun to settle back into their old ways. He applied for schooling in Fantasia, eager to leave. He packed up his nicest belongings, established ties with his family to ensure he would still have money, and left. However, before leaving, he took some of his sister's old jewelry and sold it. He also pick pocketed someone in the airport, though he was never discovered. He didn't want to be stuck without enough money. He wanted to get away from the block and the house on the corner. In his first week upon the campus, Parker knew that he was not there to make friends. He also knew that it would be very difficult for him to do so. After all, many of these people were commoners. He wasn't exactly disgusted, but he certainly was not modest about his upbringing. He was an engineering major, always involved with complicated designs. He didn't dislike Fantasia the way he disliked his home, and finally, he began to settle down.
Parker wanted to be the best – and everybody in his courses knew it. He was the student who would take ridiculous amounts of credit hours per semester. He would study for ridiculous amounts of time. However, not everything was perfect. He was caught cheating on a minor quiz. Had it been an exam, he was positive that he would have been expelled from the school. As such, he was forced to fail the class and help out the TA for the course as punishment. It was that incident which began to fuel his desire for an even higher degree, and after graduating a semester early, he came back as a graduate student. Partially, his goal was to spite those who had attended his peer court meeting, which decided his punishment. Currently a TA, he is always trying to cover up his mistakes. He hopes to one day become a professor, and has no real intention of working besides teaching. There is one thing Parker is certain about; he wants to be just as wealthy and renowned as the house on the corner. He is willing to stop at very little to get that, even if it means cutting others down and doing things to better himself at other's expenses.
