"I'm more of an old-fashioned 'take-it-down-with-an-axe-and-then-lop-its-head-off' kind of girl." -Astrid
NAME:Astrid Derica Hofferson NICKNAMES:...none. AGE:21 BIRTHDAY: March Twenty-Fifth ORIENTATION: Heterosexual NATIONALITY: American OCCUPATION:Sophomore at Thomas College PLAYED BY:Avril Lavigne DISNEY: Astrid Hofferson from How to Train Your Dragon USER GROUP: hero or heroine
PERSONALITY !
DEDICATED! When Astrid sets her mind to something, she will do it. When she's passionate about something, she gives it her all, even if it means doing something she doesn't like. She's a hard worker, and will probably work herself to death if she isn't stopped. And if she cares about what she's doing enough. Her education is one of the things that she'd work herself to death over. If given half the chance, Astrid would pull all-nighters on a regular basis, living off of caffeine and adrenaline. However she has been told that this is unhealthy. Repeatedly.Astrid is extremely hard on herself, so when she makes a mistake, she often views it as worse than it really was. STRONG! We're talking mentally here, not just physically. Astrid is the support beam for her family. She's the rant room, the shoulder to cry on, everything. She really doesn't mind, because she loves them. However, because of this, she often bottles up her emotions, because she's afraid that if her loved ones see her crack, see her fall, then they might do the same. CARING! Deep down. Way deep down. She acres about her family and her friends. If they hurt, she tries to cheer them up. If someone is the reason they're upset, then Astrid will hunt them down, and their fate will not be pleasant. She's extremely protective over those she cares about. LONER! To be put quite frankly, Astrid really isn't a people person. It's not really that she dislikes people (except for little kids), she just doesn't interact well with them (and yes, she has had a report card or two -or three- that have said ' Doesn't play well with others'). Now, there are a few exceptions to this rule, and they had to break down her walls (and all of their defenses) to gain her trust and friendship. The operative word there being 'few'. Astrid would really rather spend her time studying and working then going out and being social. She is loyal to those who gain her trust. Almost to the point of being blind to their faults. VIOLENT!Astrid is a fighter. In the literal tense. She fights. A lot. Mostly for the fun if it. It lets out all those nasty negative emotions like anger and grief and frustration. For her, it's therapeutic. For the most part, she doesn't fight people, just her punching bag. But if someone really makes her angry, then she will punch them. Hard. Probably in the face. And really, it doesn't take much to make Astrid angry. She has very little tolerance for failure or stupidity. And disrespect. She also tends to get furious if she's upstaged at anything.
QUIRKS:- She chews and/or pulls on things. Like necklaces, bracelets, fingernails, etc.
- She says 'y'know' a lot.
- There is always something on or covering her wrists. She feels naked if there isn't.
LIKES: wind, heights, fighting, silence, being alone, sports, perfection, being the best, winning, running DISLIKES: fire, losing, being upstaged, small children, snakes (with a burning, holy passion), guns, screwing up, failure, large crowds, stupidity
HISTORY ! Astrid Derica Hofferson is descended from Vikings. Sur-freaking-prise. She was named after her grandmothers, Astrid on her mother's side, and Derica from her father's. She was born and raised in Fantasia City, by her parents. Her father was possibly the strongest person that she had (and has) ever known. She was a complete and utter daddy's girl. In her eyes, he could do no wrong, he was invincible, he was...well, dad. He always wanted a son, but from the minute the little pink bundle that was Astrid was placed in his arms, he was in love. He taught her everything he would have taught a son. When he could, anyway. You see, Astrid's father traveled quite often, due to his job as a business man. He tried to be home as much as he could, but to the family left behind, it always seemed like forever. Then, when Astrid was ten, her father died in a car crash.
Astrid was never really an outgoing girl. But after her father's death, it changed from being shy and slightly awkward to just shutting people out. Teachers, her mother, other children her age...everyone. Her mother, due to a friend's suggestion, signed her up for every activity she could think of at some point or another. Ballet, gymnastics, music lessons, other types of dance, everything. The only thing that broke through Astrid's walls was fighting. Martial arts, kickboxing, fencing, et cetera. Those where the only activities that helped. And while they certainly worried her mother, it was better than having Astrid curled up in her room. Between her father's savings and life insurance and her mother's job as a teacher (which, granted, didn't pay a overly large amount), they lived a comfortable enough life.
Even after Astrid recovered from the emotional blow, she had a hard time interacting with people. Once you are known as the girl who sits by herself, it's hard to shake that off. Or, at least it was for her. Part of that was that she didn't really try to be social, at all. Correction; she gave an icy glare to anyone who tried to talk to her for a good portion of her middle and high school years. She had a few friends. One of these was a boy who for years she had viewed as completely inept at..well, pretty much life. And then she got to know him and realized that he really wasn't that bad. He became her closest friend.
Astrid kept up her fighting. Somewhere between the time she was ten and her senior year of high school, it became her passion, not just the best therapy anyone could ask for (because, really, what's more relaxing than beating the ever-loving crap out of a punching bag?). She's most skilled at hand-to-hand combat. She's also a runner. When fighting fails to clear her mind, then she runs, and vice versa. She started running in high school, and it was one of those things she just continued to work at.
SAMPLE !
Dei was having one of those days. You know the ones. They're the days that make you want to crawl into a hole and just sleep for a few weeks. Sadly, she couldn't do that, for she was a]the Quidditch team Captain, and b] an overall 'good kid'. So she had to show up to classes and practices and all that jazz. It did not, however, put her into a good mood. While Quidditch had helped a little, it was drizzly and cold out, which meant that she was finding refuge in the castle. Bundled up in a leather jacket, she found her way to the general common room. It was fairly empty, it being a school day and all. Dei easily found an empty couch and collapsed on it. She swore, one day all the stress from her seventh year was going to kill her. She was sure that people would attend her funeral. And on her headstone, it would say 'Death by Homework' or something like that. Speaking of homework, she had yet to do that. Dei groaned. Her life sucked. Or, at least, it felt like it did. Granted, she had forced a lot of this stress upon herself. She had wanted to be Quidditch captain. She had chosen her classes. She just hadn't expected the stress to accumulate as it had. She hadn't expected to lose so much sleep because she had homework due the next day, or because she was nervous about the match that week. And she had been neglecting her friends as well, which is never good. They understood why, of course. But it didn't ease Dei's guilt on the matter at all. In fact, it just made it a little worse. Why was she lucky enough to have such awesome and understanding friends?
Of course, when she thought of friends, she inevitably thought of Caedon. He was probably her best friend. They had met their first day of first year, on the boat to the castle. Like many scared kids do, they bonded. Even though they were in separate houses, and he was one of the chasers for the Gryffindor team, they were still best friends. Oh, and did I mention that she had a crush on him the size of, oh, say Texas? Because she did. Not that it really showed. Even her little sister, who knew her better than just about anyone, didn't know about it. Dei had just recently admitted it to herself. About the middle of sixth year, Dei realized that he had grown up, which tends to happen over a series of five and a half years. She also realized that she didn't appreciate all the girls who were drooling after him. And then she realized that she had a crush on her best friend. Which wasn't really the best thing, because let's say he didn't like her back. If she told him, it would make things awkward. Deirdre valued his friendship. They were very similar, after all. The were both smart, both funny. They both had done some pranking, him more than her. She could hold a intelligent conversation with him, or she could just sit in companionable silence. She felt close enough to him to tell him most of her secrets, and if something was bothering her, he was the first person she went to. She didn't want to lose that. But if he liked her back...
She shook herself from that line of thought. Trying to distract herself, she pulled out her Care of Magical creatures book, to read the chapter that they were learning from. It was her homework for the night. Along with Potions and Defense Against The Dark Arts, and Charms, and...okay, the last line of thought was a lot more pleasant. But unhealthy, she reminded herself. Dei tried to focus, she really did. But in the end, she couldn't. She put the book away, and brushed a lock of red-orange hair out of her face, sighing. She closed her eyes, collecting her thoughts. It was because of this action that she didn't notice anything going on around her.
