PERSONALITY !
TRUE TO HER HEART! If there's one thing that can be said about Mulan, it's that she thinks with her heart first and her mind second. She defies whatever her parents thinks are "socially acceptable" in favor of something that she enjoys doing, or that she wants to do. If her heart is telling her yes, and her mind is telling her no, Mulan will more often than not go with what her heart says. In the same vein, Mulan often wears her heart on her sleeve; her feelings and emotions are very easy to read and very volatile. As a result, some may call her impulsive or rash.
COURAGEOUS! Another redeeming quality about Mulan is that she's courageous. She won't hesitate to do something life-threatening if the end result could possibly be a good thing. However, at the same time, Mulan has that kind of "foolish bravery". She would willingly put herself in harm's way for someone - if they're particularly close or she just wants to prove a point - without thinking much of the consequences. Some might call that bravery, others might call it foolishness.
DETERMINED! Once she puts her mind to it, Mulan is virtually unstoppable. She will put everything she has and do anything in her power to achieve that which on which she has set a goal. The path to it may end up being impossible, but Mulan has never believed in "impossible".
SARCASTIC! Sarcasm is like a second languge to Mulan. There's not much to which she wouldn't answer with sarcasm and that sort of dry humor that she has perfected over the years. Underneath it though, depending on the person, Mulan's sarcasm may have a grain or two of care and concern. She hates being vulnerable, so her sarcasm is more like a wall that she puts up to protect herself from being hurt too badly.
REBELLIOUS! Although not quite on the level of a truant, Mulan is quite rebellious. For one, she more or less spat in the faces of her parents and refused to conform to their ideals. Often, if a person tells her explicitly not to do something, Mulan will try it, just to spite them. The only way to actually get her to do something is to use the age old "reverse psychology" trick; it works every time.
QUIRKS: + perpetually late + clumsy + frowns when concentrating + tucks hair behind right ear when embarrassed + smile always twitches + forgetful + has a light scar tracing from left side to around mid-stomach
LIKES: + evenings + action movies + the color green + sunsets + sunny days + spring + reading + being the center of attention + having authority + arguments / debates
DISLIKES: + snow + rain + being pulled into reality + conformity + being complimented + overly "macho" guys + overly feminine girls + being ignored + realizing her faults + half-assed / flimsy people
HISTORY !
Mulan Li Fa was born to Zhou and Li Fa on the sixteenth of April in a rural providence in Eastern China. As she grew up, it would become evident that Mulan was far from the traditional, socially accepted "Chinese woman". As a toddler, she scorned the idea of playing with dolls - like the rest of the girls her age would - and instead, Mulan would romp around in the mud with the boys of the village. Her father was a veteran and was honorably discharged due to his heroic acts in the wars of his youth. Mulan was fascinated by his stories of battle; she would beg him constantly to tell her bedtime stories that involved his heroic deeds. Her father would reprimand her gently, saying that it was no place for a girl and it would never do her any good to be so bloodthirsty. Mulan would never admit it - not even now - but the reason she loved those stories so much was because they were in the past.
She never imagined another war would break out.
Long story short, Zhou heard about the war and - despite his old age and lame foot - decided to enlist again. Mulan was terrified, one of the only times in her life. She tried to convince him otherwise, but her pleas fell on deaf ears. There would be a Fa family member in the army, whether she wanted it or not. So, Mulan cut off her hair, stole her father's uniform and ran away to the army.
It was brutal. Her unit of soldiers were a group of newbies, and they received the worst end of the training session. It took a long while before Mulan became skilled at any sort of combat / using equipment and even longer before she could fully prove herself.
Her deception saved many of the men in her unit, but that didn't stop them from being furious when they found out her true gender. They clamoured for her immediate withdrawal from their unit and the army. She would go home with nothing. Mulan had no choice.
When she returned home, she was welcomed back with open arms, but Mulan knew that if she were to stay there, she would forever be the "one that ran away". So, she moved. She moved to the farthest place she knew. Fantasia City. It was an English-speaking town, but the army required previous knowledge of English, and her captain had been born in the United States and often spoke English to his unit, so she picked up and perfected her English easily. It's been two years since her move, and she's still a bit of a newbie in Fantasia, but... who knows, that might change soon enough.
SAMPLE !
The slow speed of 40 miles per hour made Ashlyn want to grab the handlebars herself and throw the bike into full throttle. She settled for tightening her grip around Chase Jordan, almost as if she thought if she squeezed him just a little harder, he might change his mind and revert back to the death-defying speed Ashlyn had witnessed just moments before. The scenery around them changed from the manicured lawns of Bluewater’s finest to the rugged outdoors that Ashlyn preferred until they reached the top of a cliff. Chase Jordan hopped off the bike after setting it on its kickstand, and the blonde obligingly took his hand, laughing when he pulled her off the bike.
The view from the cliff was amazing. Ashlyn could try and try to describe it, but her words would never match up to the sheer moment of just being there. Bluewater was just a small smudge of buildings on the beach side; everything else was open ocean. Her blue eyes, outlined in a daring layer of black, widened. “Oh wow,” she breathed, almost entranced by the way the afternoon sun danced off the rolling waves. Ashlyn was almost reluctant to tear her gaze away, but when she did to look at him, she was struck with the thought that she had gone from one beautiful sight to another.
“Do you like it?” he asked from what was presumably their lunch table. The blanket creased underneath Chase’s form as he sprawled across it, and Ashlyn plopped down, curling next to him, an arm folded under her head, the other hand still grasping his. “I’m more of a nature guy,” he added. Ashlyn grinned at him, flashing him white teeth for a moment. They disappeared a moment later as Ashlyn was struck with a moment of pure recklessness; the blonde leaned forward and gave him a peck (that may or may not have had a little bit more than innocent intention on her end) on the cheek. “How’s that for an answer?” she asked archly, a smirk threatening to tug at her lips.

hey doll. it looks great! just a few things:
(1) her occupation needs to be an actual occupation, whether it be student or sommem. not just a local. (2) the beginning part of the history seems to read as if you're trying to take the actual mulan story and spin it so it isn't word for word; which is fine, but the way she was enlisted into the army seems a bit awkward. if you could find a different way for her to get into that mixup, even if it is by pretending to be her father, it would be fantastic.
fix those two things and you'll be good to go!
