[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,325,true]If Tinka had to work, then she was going to at least try to enjoy herself while she was at work. A smirk tugged at her lips as she checked the clock hanging by the register. Ten minutes until the fun started. The blonde almost couldn’t contain her smirk. This was going to be an enjoyable shift at work. Chuckling to herself, Tinka leaned against the counter. It was a good thing too, since it was dead at Flo’s today. People were probably all doing their Christmas shopping, and had no time for lunch at the diner. Which was good, since it wasn’t like she wanted to work that hard anyway. But she didn’t want to be bored. Man, there really was no pleasing Tinka Belmount sometimes. So it was probably a good thing she had her own entertainment planned, or she’d have driven her fellow staff members crazy with her need for entertainment.
Looking at her nails, Tink tried to pretend like she wasn’t waiting for someone. In all reality, her excitement was rising fast. Any moment now, Little miss perfectly annoying Darling would be entering the diner, dressed to the nines, waiting for her lunch date with Peter. The date Tinka had told Ed to tell John to tell Luce that Pete had told Tink that he wanted to have lunch with her. Peter hadn’t told Tink anything of the sort, and the girl had made sure it went through enough people that she couldn’t out rightly linked to it. She didn’t expect that it would end anything between her lover and the silly girl, but it would upset Luce, which was always worth it. Besides, it could end in a fight or something. Any chink in the attraction she just knew Pete felt for Wendy. Gah, even just thinking about it made the blonde feel sick. It was gross.
As the door tinkled, Tinka looked up. Grin tugging on her lips. Ah phewy, It wasn’t Luce. Just some old couple. Tinka rolled her eyes. Letting out an audible sigh as the couple chose their seats. Gah! Why did they have to sit in her section? Frustration was running through her as she pushed away from the counter. Collecting two menus, the blonde took her sweet ass time in making her way over to the couple. There was no way she was going to hurry. If they were in a rush they could go get some fast food or something. Or sit in the other waitress’ section. That girl was such a suck up that she wouldn’t dare work slowly. Honestly, some people... Handing them both the menus lazily, Tinka yawned before giving them the usual greeting, her tone rather bored. “Welcome to Flo’s. I’ll be your waitress. Can I start you off with some drinks?”
Tapping her foot impatiently, Tinka crossed her arms as she waited for the couple to look over the drinks portion of the menu. Everything about her stance screamed bored and uninterested. Which post people normally were working at a place like this. The difference was, was that Tinka wasn’t afraid to show her disinterest. Honestly, it wouldn’t be a surprise if she was fired. Well, she’d be pretty surprised, but no one else would be. As the customers finally decided on drinks, Tink lazily pulled out her pad and pen, scribbling the orders down before walking away without a word. Tossing the order at the barista before returning to checking out her nails. Luce better show up, or the whole day was going to suck. Hardcore suck.

Luce loved her job. She didn't know why, but she didn't question it much either. She loved that she clicked so easily with the kids she looked after and she loved that she didn't want to work anywhere else. It was the perfect after school job and Luce wasn't about to ruin it by looking for something else. She had been working with the Howald family for two years now and they had practically accepted her into their family. She received gifts for Christmas and her birthday and they invited her out to family gatherings all the time. Luce wouldn't say that being a nanny was her dream job, but it was definitely a nice after school gig that she would gladly hold onto for as long as possible.
That meant that when she received an invitation to lunch from Peter Patkins, she wasn't about to call off work and risk losing the job she adored. The Howalds gave her enough time off as it were, she wasn't about to up and ditch her responsibilities. Oh, how adult of her. Instead, Luce decided to bundle the kids up and take them with her. Maybe it would scare Patkins off and he wouldn't try to get her to go to lunch again. Would she be lying if she said her stomach wasn't in a knot? Yes. But Luce wasn't able to tell if it was because she was excited or dreading the idea of having to see Peter Patkins again. "Come on, Josephine... coat on. Roger, don't pull your sister's ponytail." Luce slipped her own coat on over her shoulders as she watched the youngest Howald, Josephine, struggle into hers.
The three children Luce watched after ranged from the age of six to eleven. Roger was the oldest, and by far the most rambunctious. Luce believed it was because he was a boy, but he told her it was just because he knew how to have fun. After Roger was Mary Ann, who at the age of eight was quiet and reserved and would much rather spend her time playing piano than doing anything else. Josephine was six and she was the curious one, the one that was always running ahead of the group. She was, also, the one always picked on by both her older siblings. Luce loved them all, but Josephine was always the easiest to get along with.
The youngest slid her gloved hand into Luce's after she had defeated the coat, and then they were off to Flo's Diner for lunch. Luce hadn't told Peter that she would be bringing them, in fact she hadn't replied to Patkins at all. But she had expressed to the children that they might have lunch with a friend. Friend was used loosely, of course. But Roger would have pestered her with questions, and Luce wasn't in the mood to deal with that. Once they arrived at the diner, Luce opened the door and told them to find an empty table. Roger pushed Josephine out of the way and picked the table before the other girls had a chance to even scan the area. Josephine whined, but Luce gave her a small smile and she followed her older siblings.
Luce looked around a bit, didn't see Peter, and followed them as well. She scoot in next to Josephine and then handed out the menus for the kids to look over. Even if Peter didn't show up, at least there would be food for them.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,325,true]As the door chimed again, Tinka jumped to attention. Her eyes sparkling as she looked up to see who was entering the diner. This time, she was not disappointed. It was in fact Luce Darling entering. Luce Darling was entering with—a pack of children? Tinka felt a tug on her lips. Spreading them into a large smirk. Oh this was too perfect for words. Sure, it would have been so funny to see the stupid girl sit there sadly by herself, but it was even funnier to think she’d bundled all those kids up for no reason. To watch her try to stay strong and not let the kids no she was stood up. Oh it was too good! Tink also had to wonder what in the world she’d been thinking. Like, really, who thought it would be a good idea to bring kids to a date? A small part of the girl would have loved to see Pete’s reaction to this. He’d have probably not been shy in telling her his distaste. Oh the lols.
Watching as they chose a table, Tink bit the inside of her lip. Praying they chose her section. Normally she’d vomit up her breakfast at the thought of waiting on Luce. However today, it would only add to her deep amusement at the situation. She could hover, offering politely masked insults as she ‘served’ Luce and the gaggle of brats she had brought in. Swearing lightly under her breath, Tinka frowned as they chose the other section. Straightening up quickly, she tossed the other waitress a nearby rag. “You clean up, I’ll look after teen mother.” Flashing a sickly sweet smile, Tinka moved swiftly from behind the counter, and towards Luce. The sickly smile still firmly planted on her features. The way Tink saw it, she had two options, be nice and let Luce know something was up sooner, or be herself and keep the girl wondering.
Instantly, she dropped the smile. Pulling a look of distain onto her features. It would be fun to see Luce think she had one up on Tinka then see that all wash away as the truth came out. Or at least, the version of the truth Tinka was hoping she’d believe. That Peter wasn’t coming. That she was being stood up. The real truth, while it would anger Luce, wouldn’t upset her as much as thinking she was being stood up. Even being stood up by someone you didn’t like was really hurtful. Every girl knew that. It was that fact Tink was counting on. It didn’t matter how much she did or didn’t like Pete, Luce would possibly hate him after this. At least until it was found out that Pete didn’t arrange this, but whatever. Tink also hadn’t considered how Pete would feel about all this, but that was whatever too.
Practically scoffing, Tink rolled her eyes. “I thought Flo’s had a rule; no losers. How’d you get in?” She asked, one hand on her hip. The other holding a menu out, just over Luce’s head.

"Of course you can have pie. But after you have an actual meal," Luce replied to Josephine as she took off the girls gloves for her. The other two argued over who got to sit next to the window, even though they were already sitting. She snapped her fingers at them and they quieted, Roger glowering at his sister. After helping Josephine with her coat, she pulled her own off and draped it over the back of the booth just as Tink arrived at their table. If Luce disliked Peter Patkins, she hated Tinka Belmount, with an undying passion. Probably because Tinka was everything Luce hated in a person. She was vindictive, cruel, and just downright mean. Not to mention she seemed too open with her flirtations. Luce wouldn't go so far to call her a whore, but it wouldn't have hurt matters...or help them either.
The insult that came off Tink's lips hardly stung Luce. Really, she had much better things to do than let some blonde degrade her. "The same way you got in, I suppose." The comment could be taken as an insult, saying Tink was a loser just like Luce, but it might as well be taken as a simple remark. She came in through the front door. Really. Childish games were...childish. She leaned one arm on the table, her weight pushing on her arm, her eyes steady on Tink. There really was no reason for them to be arguing. Tink could have Pete. Luce really didn't give a damn. He was frustrating and annoying. She could have sat there and done this staring contest all day, but Josephine was hungry. As was evident by her standing up on the booth and grabbing the menu from Tinka's hand.
Luce smiled a bit, taking the menu from Josephine and spreading it open for the younger girl to look at. She couldn't read quite well, but she knew how to pronounce out the words and stumble her way through it. As Luce helped Josephine, Roger turned to Tinka and smirked; "I want a milkshake, a big one, with three cherries on it." He glanced at Luce as if expecting her to admonish him for getting something so sweet, but she merely shrugged and read the description of the chicken fingers to Josephine. With a quiet squeal of excitement, Josephine nodded and pointed to those before turning to Tinka and exclaiming; "I WANT THESE!" and waving the menu in the air, nearly knocking over the salt shaker on the table. Luce deftly caught the tumbling salt, placed it up right, and then looked at Mary Ann who was quietly chewing on her lip and debating what to drink.
While Mary Ann decided, Luce turned back to Tinka; "Still a waitress, I see. How's that going for you, Tinka? Good benefits?" Luce held back a smirk, instead gave a sweet smile. It was a somewhat condescending remark, but Luce pulled it off so smoothly.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,325,true]Tinka was losing her patience with these kids, and fast. The worst part, they hadn’t even been there for that long. Tinka had to hope that Luce wasn’t daft enough to wait around on Pete for too long, or her patience would vanish completely and Luce would have to explain why she was returning home with three children less than when she had left. Although, the other girl- the quiet one? She could stay. In fact, she reminded Tinka of the sort of girl who she’d befriend at school or at a pageant to sway to her whim and do her bidding. The quiet ones were always so plyable, Tinka found. It was almost impossible to boss around a girl with a loud personality, or one who was confident in her own self. Which was probably why she despised Luce so much. The Peter stuff aside, the girl was just so sure of herself, she couldn’t be manipulated easily.
Letting out a low sigh, Tinka rolled her eyes at the boy. “We don’t put cherries in milkshakes.” She probably should have been polite about it, but eh, what was the kid going to do? Ask for the manager? Well, Luce could, but she was here to meet Tinka’s best friend, how would it look if when he arrived, Luce had gotten Tinka into trouble? Heh. It would have made her look really bad. From what she knew of the girl, she didn’t like to look bad. So it was in Tinka’s favour. Which was just the way she liked things. The blonde had always been like that. Even as a child, she had demanded things to be here way, and thrown tantrums when they weren’t. Which wasn’t a surprise considering the sorts of things she did as a child. Pageants for instance. It wasn’t as though she was the only girl who wouldn’t win miss congeniality.
Normally, Tinka would have found the little one at least a little cute. She wasn’t made of stone, she was a bitch, but not stone. Most people found cute children hard not to smile at. However this adorable child was linked to Luce, therefore making it impossible for Luce to like her at all. Keeping her lips pursed in a tight line, she wordlessly wrote down the order for chicken nuggets. Then, she turned her attention back to Luce, pulling a sickly smile to her lips. “Oh I get benefits..” she said, smirk stretched on her features. “Just not from my job, if you know what I mean.” She gave her hips a suggestive wiggle, giggling slightly. As though she were swapping sex stories with her best friend. C O U N T, 444 N O T E S, sorrryyy it sucks O U T F I T, click |

Roger looked perplexed, "What kind of place doesn't put cherries in their milkshakes?" Luce sent Roger a look, trying to get him to behave, but even if she didn't get enjoyment out of Tinka getting antagonized by a child, he wouldn't have listened to her. "I want three cherries on my milkshake. Bring me a milkshake with three cherries on it! NOW!" That was enough. Luce rapped her knuckles on the table to get Roger's attention and raised her eyebrows. Mary Ann nibbled on her bottom lip and looked up, seemingly shrinking in her seat. Luce didn't understand how two people could have three very different children. Roger sulked and gave Luce a look, then muttered a "please" under his breath. Luce nodded and gave him a small smile before turning back to the blonde who was supposed to be serving them their food, but was rather trying as hard as possible to make Luce uncomfortable.
It wasn't working.
Instead, Luce just raised her eyebrows at the suggestive hip wiggle and then nodded as if she did understand before saying; "Ohh...so you get benefits from your other job. Tell me, Tink, how is that corner business going?" It wasn't a nice comment, in fact, it wasn't even the kind of comment one should make in front of the presence of anyone let alone three children. But she had hoped that the kids wouldn't have picked up on it.. until Mary Ann let out a shocked gasp, and Roger's jaw dropped. Never had Luce spoken out of such turn in front of them. She was the epitome of being a good girl. Someone who didn't make comments like that, didn't let anyone get under her skin. But to be honest, lately Luce had been hating that she couldn't speak her mind in any terms she wanted. She hated filtering what she was saying to make others feel better about the honest truth she was delivering them.
She wouldn't lie. It felt good to send a direct insult in Tinka's direction, instead of masking it to seemingly go in either direction. Mary Ann cleared her throat and looked at Tink, breaking the tension that had been hanging palpable in the air after Luce's comment only seconds ago; "May I please have a sweet tea?" Mary Ann's voice was so quiet, timid, and lovely. Luce didn't know anyone who hated Mary Ann - but then again, she hadn't known anyone to hate herself either... but Tinka proved that belief wrong instantly.
