* you're impossible to find , The Medusa Shopping Mall was huge. In fact, it was most likely one of the largest malls in the world. Or maybe that was just an exaggeration. Either way there were so many stores inside, just waiting for someone to enter and buy something from. There were perhaps over a hundred people wandering around the mall, walking in and out of shops, leaving with a dozen bags full of new clothes and other various items. It was an amazing sight, all the colours moving in heaps across the shiny white floor of the building. The escalators and lifts were packed with people and many of the more popular shops looked like they could explode at any moment. Really it was quite spectacular. In Australia none of the shops – from what she could remember – had been that packed. Most of the larger ones simply had a few people, not as many as here.
Walking along, she hugged her purse in closer to her body. It was not too heavy as she was only carrying notes, most of them fifties as that was all her dad had at the moment. She had received around five hundred dollars from him this morning. It was a sorry present as he was not going to make it for dinner that night. So Kiara had decided to take the money and head out to one of her favourite places in the world. Shopping was the greatest past time a girl could have. Although she would usually prefer to enjoy the company of her friend whilst shopping they were all caught up with other things. So instead she was alone. It was more intimidating, walking through the shops alone than in a pack. Most of the other girls at the mall were travelling in at least pairs. The girl grew rather self-conscious as she floated across the glossy floor.
Pushing her way through the crowd the blonde haired girl found her way onto the escalator and let it carry her up to the next floor. She went up another escalator until she was on the floor second from the top. This is where all the good cafes were. She already had a few shopping bags in hand, mainly Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister and Jeans West with a few other things distributed throughout those three main bags. Weaving her way through all the different fast food shops, including a rather packed MacDonald’s and Kentucky Fried Chicken, she made her way to the far corner of the floor. There was a small coffee shop that was almost completely empty. One of the waiters waved to her as she walked in and took her usual seat at the far right hand corner of the coffee shop. They all knew he well. This was the place she came when she needed to think. She did other things there such as drink coffee but the waiters had stopped offering that to her once they discovered what it made of her. A hyper Kiara was not a very good sight at all.
The blonde placed her bags underneath the table and left the seat opposite her empty. Maybe someone she knew would come and join her. Most of her friends knew she hung out there. Still, no one would come up here. But a girl could dream right? The cute waiter that had waved at her earlier came over and asked if she needed a menu. Smiling she looked up at him. “Like you need to ask. Seeing as I know you won’t let me have an iced coffee, an iced chocolate will suffice.” Kiara grinned up at him and he smiled back then went to go and get her iced chocolate. Leaning into one of her bags Kiara picked up a book that she had just bought. Flipping it open she began to read, only stopping to mutter, “thank you,” when the waiter brought her drink. She was completely caught up in the book already, blocking out the world around her.

--- remember those walls i built , Exercise, study, eat, sleep. Most days, those four things were what Kaleb did. Not necessarily in that order, and what kind of exercising and what kind of food he ate varied every day, but still – it always seemed to be the same. Was he tired of it? No, not exactly. It was the way his life had been for as long as he could remember, due to the way his mother had constantly pushed him to be the best at everything he did. Now, it wasn’t even that much about her expectations anymore. Sure, to a certain degree, but it was mostly just about what he was used to and what he expected of himself. Taking a break from his routines felt… strange, so he rarely did. Today, however, was an exception. There were no classes he needed to go to and he had already been out jogging a couple of hours ago, which had resulted in him figuring out he might need some new sneakers.
That meant he had to go to the mall, which was not his favorite place to be. It always seemed to crowded, full of silly young girls running in and out of stores and giggling endlessly about ridiculous things. Did they really not have anything better to do than spend all their money on clothes and makeup? Yes, he appreciated a pretty girl as much as any young man (although he was a bit more quiet about it than a lot of them), but it seemed like such a waste to buy new pieces of clothing, what, every single week? It wasn’t his problem, though, since they were the ones wasting their time and money. The only thing that bothered him was that they seemed to be everywhere at this mall today, no matter what corner he turned or which direction he looked. For someone not renowned for their great people skills, this was a fairly frustrating situation. All he needed to do was buy some sneakers, though, which shouldn’t be entirely impossible.
About fifteen minutes later, he had proven that it wasn’t. With a pair of Nikes in a plastic bag, he found himself wandering through the all too crowded mall once more, increasingly annoyed with the way people seemed unable to move out of the way even when they noticed someone was trying to get past them. This resulted in him taking a series of detours in order to try to avoid some of the most crowded areas, including going to some corners of the mall he didn’t even know existed. In one of these corners, at the end of the Food Court, he stopped. There was a coffee shop there he hadn’t noticed before, and even though it was mostly full, it seemed more… relaxed, somehow, than the rest of this crazy place. Now that he thought about it, maybe a nice cup of black coffee might taste good just now. Therefore, he headed over to the counter and ordered just that.
Just as he was about to go over to the only available table he had spotted, though, a young woman sat down there. His initial reaction was annoyance. He’d paid the extra few cents to drink his coffee here, but there didn’t seem to be anywhere for him to sit. Yet another reason to not like these places. His eyes remained fixed on the girl for a moment, and she watched as a waiter came over to her with her drink. She seemed too preoccupied with whatever it was she was reading to take any real notice of it, though. Wait, why was he noticing this? His eyebrows furrowed slightly as he tried to figure it out. There was something almost familiar about her. Maybe they’d met before, in class or something like that. No, that didn’t seem quite right. After a few seconds, though, he might as well go up to her since there was an available seat by her table.
Then, as he stopped just a few feet away from her table and he saw her face properly, it hit him. That girl, the one he’d met years ago and actually had fun with, was this her? The memory seemed strange and a bit vague because it was so unlike the rest of his life, but still, he felt like he couldn’t possibly be wrong right now. The strangest sensation welled up in him, almost like -- like enthusiasm., or curiosity. That was something he didn’t often feel when it came to other people. ”Kiara?” he asked, suddenly unsure if she’d even look up from her book.

* hold all your feelings inside , The book was simply amazing. Already twenty pages in and hooked, Kiara blocked out everything around her. She occasionally stopped to take a sip of her iced chocolate but apart from that she was completely absorbed. So it’s no wonder that she did not notice a young man walk up to her table and stand next to it for a few moments. She hardly noticed him staring at her. But when he said her name Kiara’s face snapped up to look at him. Her face was filled with confusion at the fact that this complete stranger knew her name. Perhaps he was secretly stalking her. No, that was totally crazy. Well, she did have a lot of money. But no. Somehow he just knew her name. Maybe it was a lucky guess or maybe she knew him from somewhere.
Closing the book she shoved back into one of her bags, committing the page number to memory. Then, she looked up at the young man once more. That face was vaguely familiar and changed with age. And then it hit her. The boy she had met years ago, the one whose mother was certainly crazy. “Kaleb?” she questioned, her face suddenly lighting up. A smile spread across her entire face and her voice was high pitched. “Oh my gosh!” she chirped. “I haven’t seen you in like, forever!” she was suddenly excited to the point that it seemed like she had drunk ten gallons of coffee. Only she wasn’t allowed coffee for some freak reason that no one would tell her of. Still, this was mega exciting. The boy whom she taught how to have a life was back. She had not seen him since his mother had told them they weren’t to see each other ever again.
Kiara pushed the opposite chair out with her leg and nodded to it. “Take a seat. We need to talk.” She was speaking at a hundred miles per hour but she could not care less. This was Kaleb and he probably remembered what she was like anyway. She had not thought of him in a long while, believing that their separation was for the best. And she had not really bothered to question it, or even try to track him down. For the past few years she had basically forgotten him, hence why she had not recognised him at first. Still, it was a good surprise. They had had so much fun when they were younger. That day had seriously been one of her highlights for that year. And now here he was again and there were so many questions she wanted to ask him.
Instead of letting loose however she just smiled at him and took another sip of her iced chocolate. She looked down at the bag he had beside him, from Athlete’s Foot or some other random sport shoe shop. “I see you’re still into sport?” she asked, her tone dulled down a little. “And how is that mother of yours?” this question was spat out with a slight tone of anger. She didn’t like his mother all that much. In truth, she had scared her quite significantly. But she did realise that being her son, Kaleb must love her. “More to the point, how have you been?” Kiara asked, changing the subject from his mother. She was very curious as to what he was doing nowadays. He was a year old than her, that much he remembered but that hadn’t mattered much to her. Still, she was a curious girl and needed answers to a heap of questions. Maybe Kaleb had some for her too. Either way, the pair had a lot of catching up to do.

-- but we're not the same , It seemed like forever since that day he had met Kiara. How old had he been back then? Six? Seven? Most people would probably not remember someone they had played with for a day at the age of seven, but Kaleb had never had a lot of friends, so it had made an impact on him. The only friends his mother would let him have had usually been his siblings, Vittoria and their older brother, and even they had only been allowed to play for so long at a time. His mother was the kind of woman who always had a plan, and from the moment she’d decided that he was going to be the one to restore the family’s name or something like that, he’d had his life laid out before him. There was no time for making friends. Allies, yes, if they were necessary, but not actual friends he could just have fun with. Heck, she’d probably have preferred it if he didn’t know the word fun. Still, he loved his mother, and he was grateful for the way he had been brought up.
Now he was standing next to the one girl he had been friends with, though, and she seemed strangely enthusiastic to see him. For some reason, his instant reaction was suspicion. Was she pretending? Did she remember him at all, really? Then, he recalled that she had actually used his name, so she obviously had to know him from somewhere, and since he couldn’t remember a Kiara from anywhere else, it had to be her. Therefore, he smiled crookedly and took a seat on the available chair, just as she had asked him to. It was almost a small wonder that she’d be happy to see him (more so than her remembering her), considering that his mother had been… well, not very nice to her. Still, some people were strangely unaffected by people having been rude to them. That was difficult for Kaleb to understand, since he wasn’t the forgiving type himself.
”So it is you,” he replied, but she cut him off with a question almost immediately. Still into sports? Well, of course he was, and he was about to say that when another two questions were asked. Okay, so his memory of her being a bit of a chatterbox wasn’t something he’d made up, then. In a way, that was a relief. He had liked the girl the way she was, as far as he could recall, and even if socializing wasn’t one of his greatest strengths and overly outgoing people made him slightly annoyed most of the time, he imagined he would’ve been pretty disappointed to meet Kiara again and find she was completely different. And yes, he had thought about her once in a while, which was a bit weird, but… it had been a unique day in his life, and everyone thought about old friends once in a while, right?
”My mother’s fine,” he replied a bit curtly, not really understanding why she’d ask about Sierra. It was probably the polite thing to do, though. ”So am I. I’ve been studying, mostly. And, yeah, doing sports,” he replied, throwing a glance at the plastic bag in his hand. Then, he looked back at the blonde, smiling his crooked smile once more. ”How about you? Is your daddy still rich and powerful?” There was a certain degree of haughtiness in his tone, but he didn’t actually mean it as anything more than innocent teasing.

* if you are there beside me , Looking over at the boy she wondered how quickly he had turned into a man. His hair had darkened a few shades since she had last seen him and there was evidence that he had started shaving. What am I thinking? Kiara’s thoughts on that matter stopped instantly as she too realised that she looked quite different to when she was six and had met Kaleb for the first time. I mean really, she had been six then and now she was nineteen; there were quite a few years of change in between all that. Not to mention puberty which Kiara could’ve sworn she would never have actually survived if it wasn’t for Jill. Seeing as her real mother had died it was simply staff and her father back at their hundred acre. She seriously had needed a female to get her through, so thank goodness for Jill.
Noticing that she had been staring, the young adult shook her head and turned her attention back to the man who was now sitting in front of her. He answered all of his questions and sent a smile across her face. It was good to hear that he was doing well. If studying twenty four hours a day was okay. It seemed he was still completely work obsessed. Once again it would be up to her scattered mind to teach him how to let go. It was his mother, she had decided. She was far too controlling. Besides, Kaleb needed a life too. He seemed kind of out of place at the large mall, as if he was not too comfortable being there. His damn mother should have taught him some social skills. Still, now they were together again and seeing as they were technically adults they could think for themselves and there was no way his psychotic and overbearing mother could stop them from seeing each other. That is, if this was not just a one off. But she’d led Kaleb be the judge of that.
Kiara chose to take a sip of her iced chocolate at the wrong time. Kaleb’s next question nearly made her choke. Coughing a little she placed the glass back down and looked at him, a rather surprised expression changing her features. But she could take a joke. She laughed a little and then shook her head. Recomposing herself she smiled over at him cheekily. “Of course. If he wasn’t there would be no reason for me to be here, after all money doesn’t spend itself.” She smiled curtly at him, a childish expression on her face. Kind of like the one you would wear if you one a game with an overly competitive friend. It was a completely joking tone but she was slightly serious. It was how her and her father’s relationship worked. He was always out working and simply gave her the money he earned to spend as a sorry. Although it wasn’t her fault he had chosen a career over his own daughter. He just wanted to provide for her, which he did.
Looking him over again she grinned. “I see you’ve gone back to your old ways,” she chirped quickly, not stopping for breath. She had to address the issue now, to figure out where she sat on his radar. If he had recognised her after all these years she must be pretty important. But still, she needed to check if he was willing to pick up the friendship again, make up for all the time they had lost. “You really need to get out more. Live life you know? I mean sure, sport is fun, and studying, well, not fun at all sorry. Still, you need to learn how to have fun. Go watch a movie, hang out with friends, grab a coffee, that kind of thing. You can’t just hide away all the time.” Watching his face she tried to work out if he was angered by her words. Still, someone had to tell him the ugly truth. And it was better that she did it now, that way if he left then she would not have to feel all the pain of losing a good friend. It was safer this way. “I mean, look at me, I’m doing a writing course at college and even though I have a short story due in a few days, I still find the time to get out and chill.”

-- when we're miles away , Kaleb’s eyebrows arched slightly as he heard her start coughing. Very inconspicuous, that, he noted sarcastically. So she was still her daddy’s little girl, going around spending all his money? Well, that wasn’t exactly a surprise. Spoiled daddy’s girls tended to be that when they got older as well, unless something terribly dramatic and life-changing happened. ”Sounds like a huge problem, that,” he replied sarcastically. He’d never had the kind of money he could go spend whenever he wanted something or other. Of course, he didn’t really know anything about her life right now, but he couldn’t imagine it was radically different. Her mother was dead and her father spent all his time working. Come to think of it, his life hadn’t really changed much since the last time they’d met either. That wasn’t something he wanted to think of too much, though, so he focused on whatever it was Kiara was saying instead.
His old ways? What on earth she could mean by that wasn’t entirely clear to him. Luckily, though, it didn’t take her long to inform him exactly what it was she meant. She had always been… assertive. Or maybe that wasn’t the right word. Either way, there was that same willingness to get him out of his shell, to focus less on the things that were important to him. How patronizing. He didn’t like it one bit, this girl thinking she could just suddenly change his life. And that part about him hiding away… He wasn’t hiding, he was focusing! Hiding was something scared little girls did. He simply managed to get his priorities straight and do what he had to do in order to accomplish what he wanted in life.
”Great,” he replied, not really knowing how he was supposed to respond. He didn’t want to get mad at Kiara for being optimistic, but she was so… well, optimistic. That wasn’t exactly something he was used to dealing with. Everything he needed to do, he did it instantly. Procrastination was not a concept that existed in his world, and because there was always something at least slightly important to be done, he did not make time for things like hanging out with friends and watching movies. In all honesty, he couldn’t see why it should be that significant. The only people he really socialized with were his siblings, and that didn’t exactly encourage him to talk a lot. Vittoria was violent and harsh, while their brother was… well, he was something of an idiot, really. Why should other people be more worthwhile to be around?
Still, Kiara was living proof that he wasn’t disgusted by the idea of friendship. For some strange reason, he was trying not to snap at her, not immediately telling her she was an idiot for not focusing on her schoolwork. Could he understand her point of view? No, not at all. He was trying, though, and even that was unlike him. So maybe this girl did have a point. ”I’ve never really done anything different from what I’m doing,” he said, crossing his arms over his chest as he looked at her. ”Starting now would be a bit inconvenient, don’t you think? I mean, with exams and everything.” A smirk appeared on his face, but it was more out of amusement than that he thought she was an idiot. He liked listening to her, even if she was a bit silly sometimes.

* fallin all over myself , Boys were usually her forte. She could figure out what was going through their mind easily. But for some reason Kaleb had Kiara completely confused. Firstly, how the hell did he even recognise her after all this time? Had he seriously been stalking her or something? If he had, it was certainly flattering but still, that was not really the point. Secondly, what was he getting at hiding away in that stuffy house of his? Not that she could comment at all on his house, seeing as she had never been there in her life. Still, hiding was not going to get him anywhere, especially in her books. He was nice, from what she remembered, but he was sheltered. From what she could recall, his mother expected him to be so much more. Kiara had not a doubt in her mind that he could be that man it was just, she did not know if that man would be any fun.
Sending him a puzzled look she wondered how he could possibly have gone through life without trying anything different. Kiara made it her goal to try something new every week. She did not always stick to it but Ruth and Jill were always keeping her on her feet. Like just last week she had tried not getting angry at her father when he called and cancelled on her. Of course, she only tried it, she did not succeed. But it was hardly her fault and anyway, she was used to her father never being around. It would just be a lot nicer if he gave her more notice before he cancelled, that way she could make other plans with her friends. And giving her money to spend did not solve anything.
Inconvenient? How could anything ever be inconvenient? Okay, so exams were coming up, next week. Kiara had studied, of course, but she needed her down time too. Shaking her head in annoyance she took another sip of her iced chocolate. “Okay, here’s what you may like to try doing. Study, a little less than you usually would perhaps.” Kiara leant closer and gave him a little smile as if to say ‘I’m not implying you not study at all’. “And then instead of having your breaks out on the front porch go see some friends. You do have friends don’t you?” Kiara laughed, trying to convince him that she was totally joking. She liked Kaleb, she really did, she was just hoping that maybe he would be able to let go a bit, give in to his inhibitions.
The blonde haired girl grinned over at the dark haired man opposite her. It really was quite nice that they were there together again. She wondered if he had thought of her since they had last seen each other. He most likely had, seeing as he remembered her name and everything just at the sight of her. She wondered if she had changed at all since she was five. Kiara knew that she had grown, and well, gone through puberty and all, but most people said her face was still the same. Her father often said she looked like her mother. She simply could not believe that. The only mother she had really had was Jill and they looked nothing alike. So how did Kaleb recognise her? It had taken her a few seconds to really register who he was. Still, it was nice being remembered, she certainly liked the attention. She just hoped their friendship would not end as abruptly as it had last time.

-- something about her , The question about whether he had friends surprised Kaleb. His initial reaction was to simply chuckle slightly, in a kind of arrogant way as if to insinuate that it was silly to even ask. Really, though, the question caused him to have to think. Did he really have any friends? No. He didn’t socialize a lot, he reminded himself again, because of his mother and his siblings. He loved them, but they weren’t the nicest people in the world and hadn’t given him a good impression of, well, other people. So honestly, no, he didn’t have a whole lot of friends. No one he could randomly call up whenever he felt like taking a break or going to the movies or things like that, anyway. Now, he didn’t miss that, of course he didn’t, but he’d never really thought much about it before either. It was simply the way it had always been
”I can’t study less, Kiara,” he replied instead, finally taking a sip of the coffee he’d placed in front of him on the table. It was getting cold already. Just great. ”I mean, I…” Okay, so he didn’t know how to finish that sentence. His grades were perfect and by now, he knew most of what he was reading anyway. There was always more to be learned, though, and what if he turned up at an exam and (against all odds) didn’t know what to write because he had been busy having fun instead of studying? That was the kind of thing other people did, the ones who obviously didn’t really care about their futures. He had always been taught that hard work was the only way to accomplish what he wanted, and that was a lesson that had certainly stuck with him. He couldn’t allow himself to be worse than the best he could be. Failure was not an option in his world.
Yet, here this girl sat in front of him, telling him he ought to relax more. She seemed happy with herself, just as cheerful as he remembered her from when they were children. It didn’t make sense to him. Heck, she didn’t make sense to him. She’d certainly grown up since the last time he saw her, but she was still almost exactly like he remembered, with that attitude and that grin that made him want to grin right back. In fact, pretty much everything about her was something he would usually be annoyed by, but somehow, he wasn’t. He was amused, yes, but still found listening to her… interesting, in a way. How strange. If it hadn’t been for that he’d known her all those years ago, though, he told himself, he wouldn’t think so. She would just be another annoying little blonde. Just another girl.
Just another girl. Come to think of it, there weren’t a lot of girls in his life. He wasn’t the type to date, obviously, and hadn’t ever really taken much notice of girls because they seemed like a waste of time. Did he notice that some of them were gorgeous? Well, of course, he wasn’t blind. He just usually didn’t care that much. Kiara was pretty, though, there was no denying that. How strange. The last time they’d met, she’d been cute – the way all little five year old girls were cute. Now she was grown up and, well, very pretty. The moment he caught himself thinking that, though, he took another sip of his coffee and looked away for a moment.

* hold all your feelings inside , Kiara knew exactly what he was going to say. She could see it coming and though she did not want to hear it she braced herself. Of course Kaleb could not change everything now, it was too late. The only thing she could do was simply to accept him and try to help him have a little more fun. Smiling she looked up at him as she took another sip of her iced chocolate. It was nearly finished and she had not realised how long they had been talking for. It seemed like time went too quickly whenever you were having fun, as the saying went. She hoped he would be able to stay longer, and talk for just a little while more. She was having fun anyway, reliving old childhood memories.
Shaking her head and his reply she took yet another sip of her drink. “Hey, you don’t need to explain or anything. Old habits die young or something like that.” She waved her hand in the air nonchalantly. Smiling she leaned closer to him. “Listen, you don’t have to or whatever. Just let’s have fun.” Kiara could not believe what she was saying. She hoped that Kaleb remembered enough about her to not be put off by her over excited personality. She often made impulse decisions much like this one and all the people in her life seemed to be more than used to it. However she did not know if Kaleb would be open to the idea of simply dropping everything to go do something else with absolutely no plans whatsoever.
Looking over at the man she wondered if he had even understood the statement. Usually one who was uptight did not quite understand what was mean by those four words. Grinning she finished off her iced chocolate and looked over at him. “Let’s go somewhere. I could have my limo here in like, five minutes or something. We can go out and hang or something.” Kiara grinned at Kaleb and leaned forward, waiting for his response. She seriously did not know what to expect. She was hoping that he would say yes but there was some part of her that predicted he would say no.
There were so many times in her life when she had been disappointed but for some reason Kiara felt like this would be even worse. She had not seen him in so long and to just have coffee or whatever together and leave it at that would be terribly anticlimactic. So many times she had wanted one answer and had received another. Most of those requests had involved her father but for some reason she was now used to his cancellations and the disappointment she felt was simply put aside. She could not let herself feel that way; instead she just had to look on the positive side. Like, if her father had not cancelled their dinner plans for that night she would not have received more money and would not have come out to Medusa and therefore she would not have met up with Kaleb. So altogether, the positive side was looking pretty good.

lift my feet off the ground , Old habits die young. That wasn’t exactly how he thought that saying went, but since she had a point, he didn’t feel like mentioning it right now. After all, she was trying to do something nice, and he wasn’t quite used to that. Probably because he wasn’t very nice to most people, so he didn’t have any expectations of them being nice to him. He had been like that the last time he’d met Kiara as well, though, and she had talked to him anyway. There was definitely something about this girl, even if she was a spoiled little rich girl who got her idioms wrong. Usually, he wouldn’t give that kind of girl the time of day, much less sit at some café and drink coffee with her just because he had nothing better to do. Well, technically, he did have something better to do – he could be studying, preparing himself for the next exam. Yet here he was, having coffee.
”What’re you suggesting?” he asked, eyebrows arching slightly once again. She had already talked about going to the movies or whatever, so he wondered if that was her plan. He was already wondering what might possibly be worth watching. Action movies were a waste of time, romantic movies were ridiculous and he usually didn’t find comedies particularly funny. Acting in general seemed like a bit of a waste to him - a strange hobby that no one ought to be making a living out of. Were people really so desperate to escape their own pathetic lives that they would pay others to act like they were someone else? Considering how the movie industry thrived, the answer to that was clearly yes. Kiara hadn’t actually said anything about movies, though, so he decided to stop that trail of thought right there.
Go somewhere? That sounded awfully random and spontaneous. Kaleb was not a spontaneous person. His life was dictated by routine, and he almost always had a set plan to stick to. Yes, maybe people were right when they suggested he might be a bit obsessive. Flexibility and adaptability were certainly not among his strengths. He didn’t really mind, though, because that was the way it was and it worked for him. So somewhere and hang out or something, well, what would be the point? On the other hand, this was Kiara, and while he wasn’t quite sure why she was so special to him (they’d only met once before, after all), she was and he didn’t want to disappoint her.
”Okay,” he replied after hesitating for a moment. Was he really going along with this just because she was asking him to? Obviously, yes. The logical part of his mind tried telling him that this was not a good idea and that he should go home and do more important things, but for once in his life, he wasn’t going to listen to it. That felt strange. And to think they hadn’t even left yet. ”Where are we going to go? I don’t usually… hang out.” By now, mentioning that was probably a bit unnecessary, but he had never been known for his brilliant social skills. He was good at arguing, sure, but not making this kind of conversation. Did this count as trying something new? Not to most people, probably, but to him, he was pretty sure it did.
