we're on the island of misfit toys.
"Debra? Debra, it's six in the morning, your shift doesn't begin for another ten hours."
Her eyes shot open, wide and confused for a moment. What was going on? She slowly lifted her head from her arms, sitting up as she peered at her supervisor. "Sir?" His words slowly sunk in, and instantly her entire being seemed to wake up. "Six in the morning? Oh, oh, no. I must have fallen asleep during close. I knew that Franklin was in a rush to get out; he must not have woken me up. I'm sorry, sir, I had no idea." Debra quickly shook her head, looking terrified. She was still wearing the same clothing she had worn to work the previous day. A look of slight disgust passed her face as she pushed her light hair from her face. Slowly, sheepishly, she brought herself to look up at her supervisor. He didn't seem angry or anything. Of course, he did have a reputation for being a good guy. He actually cared about the employees. But working at a place like the Rabbit Hole, it was difficult for it to be functional if everything was mechanical and controlled. Slowly, Deb scooted the chair back as she glanced around. It wasn't even open yet, she mentally noted.
But who would come here at six, anyways?
She quickly stood up, her supervisor almost looking concerned. Her eyes slowly rotated to the window. She could see a few people outside, and her brow creased. "What day is today?" Upon the answer, a look of realization passed her face. Everything clicked. A small smile found its ways to her lips as she glanced back at her supervisor. "The parade, that's right. That's what's going on today. That was why I didn't want to work an early shift." She nodded slowly, her face lit with excitement. She twirled around to face her supervisor. "I would stay to help you open, but I should probably get home before I go to see the parade. I'm sorry." She gave a slight curtsy, her cheeks turning a rosy shade of pink for a moment before she made her way to the back room in an attempt to gather her belongings. Her supervisor simply rolled his eyes and smiled. It was astounding some of the people who worked and shopped within the walls of the bookstore. He watched as she pulled her tote bag with her and practically skipped out the front door.
A few hours later, she was finding her way through a crowd of people who had gathered on the sidewalks. It wasn't uncommon for a large crowd to establish itself at eight or so in the morning, despite the fact that the store had already opened. She wasn't a very large young woman, but even so, people were allowing her to pass with no resistance. It probably had to do with the gold tulle skirt that hung just above her knees, flowing out like a ballerina tutu. A maroon pea coat ended at her waste, hiding the shirt underneath. She almost appeared trendy, with a pair of short boots and a knit cap hanging loosely over her blonde waves. However, the colors didn't exactly appear to go together. Had someone asked, she would have claimed them to be festive. A pair of white leggings. A mustard-yellow hat. A pair of bright blue boots. She paid no mind to the odd looks she received, instead continuing to make her way to the "usual spot" she liked to view the parade from – a couple of blocks straight down the street from the Ajax store itself. Deb was mentally thankful that eventually somebody had woken her up; otherwise she might have still been in the book store.
Deb settled between a few people, nestling her way closer to the edge of the road. The parade was set to start soon, and a small smile tugged at the corners of her lips. Eagerly, she looked around. Her eyes landed on the figure next to her. "Oh, I'm just so excited," she said. The smile grew significantly to a grin. "My favorite parts are always the floats. What is yours'?"

Jessie loved christmas, but she had never been to a christmas parade. It was weird, because christmas was her favorite holiday. But now she was going to one. And that didn't stopped her for dressing like she wanted. Jesse had only been wearing dresses very few times in her life, only back then her adopt mother had put one on her. So that was never to be repeated. It was pretty simple, Jessie didn't believe in dresses, at least she was convinced that she didn't looked good in them. And as far she was concerned, she would gladly going to get married in a pair of cowboy boots and a pair of old jeans. But maybe, if she one day found Mr. Right he might change her mind. But the way things were now, she was perfectly happy without any dresses. Jessie was a tomboy who loved to get dirt under her nails and climb in trees. She wasn't a girly girl. Therefore, at this christmas parade she was wearing all christmas colors. It was excellent. Red and green.
Jessie lived alone very close to her best friends Buzz and Woody, but they weren't at home right now. So she decided to go on her own. And she didn't hesitated to put on a elf's hat she had bought a few days ago. Yes, she was twenty-two years old. but she would probably always be a child deep down. Jessie was one of those people that rarely froze, so she was just wearing a black sweater with some very decorative christmas balls on. And then she headed outside and soon she heard noises. A big, bright smile appeared on her lips and that made her run. It wasn't long, but then she finally saw the parade and the noises were louder.
Before she knew it, she was standing in the middle of a big crowd with her goofy elf hat on and with a big, rather goofy smile on her lips. This was great! Then all of a sudden, she heard a voice. It was rather familiar. But Jessie couldn't exactly place it.. So she turned her head, first to the right and then to the left and then she saw her friend Debra! Debra Fischinger was one of Jessie's first friends in Fantasia and it brought a smile upon her lips to see her. "Deb! So good to see YOU here!" Jessie said and reached in to hug her.
Okay, if you knew Jessie well, this would be a weird scene. It was well-known that Jessie had more boy friends that girl friends. But her and Deb just matched so great, so it would be a crime if they weren't friends! Then she remembered Deb had asked a question and it wasn't necessarily referred directly to Jessie, but why not answer. "I actually never seen a christmas parade. They aren't in Texas. But I can tell that so far.. I love everything! Christmas is just my thang!" She said with her texan accent and smiled brightly at Deb.

we're on the island of misfit toys.
It took Debra a moment to realize who it was – Jessie Parker! An even wider smile lit her face upon recognition. She embraced the other young woman, her eyes wide with joy. She hadn't really expected to run into anybody familiar out here, and had been hoping not to see any of her coworkers who had been working when she had fallen asleep the previous night, but this was definitely a pleasant surprise. She hadn't known who would all be at the parade, despite its popularity. "Oh, Jessie! I absolutely agree! How have you been?" She paused, her head tilted to one side. In a way, she was surprised to see that Jessie was without her best friends. She had heard about these Buzz and Woody characters, but she had yet to meet them. From her understanding, Deb was one of the few women who Jessie chose to associate with. Deb didn't fully understand that, Jessie was so great to be around. Jessie was a bit more outdoorsy than Debra, but honestly, what little girl hadn't wanted to ride horses at some point in her life?
At least, Deb figured that was the case for at least most girls.
She, too, had been one with horse wallpaper for that phase.
"I never actually seen a Christmas parade. They aren't in Texas." Deb's eyes widened as she excitedly began to ramble along after the girl had finished speaking. "Ajax always does a good job; at least, I think so. I used to come when I was little. My parents used to take me and my brothers." She paused to peer around at the parade. "Some of the bands are very good. Although, I never knew how fun it was for them to be out in the cold." Deb shivered slightly at the thought, crinkling her nose at the prospect of being without a coat. She smiled once more, shaking her head. "I can't believe you've never been to a Christmas parade. I guess, though, it didn't really snow in Texas, did it? You won't be disappointed." The grin widened as she looked back out one of the small floats that was passing by, her eyes on the people standing on or around it. They caught sight of a shiny pane of fake glass, her gaze focused there for a moment until it was completely past. She was practically standing on tip-toe, the edges of her boots on the edges of the sidewalk. Deb looked over at her friend once more.
"I must admit, Jessie, I really do like the elf hat." She giggled a little, covering her mouth with her hand. She had yet to see Jessie on a day where she didn't have a hat, but this one was new and very fitting of the occasion. "It's so festive. Oh! Have you finished all of your holiday shopping yet?" She was practically bouncing as she spoke, thoroughly excited at the mood of the holiday season. It was amazing how Deb could go from being completely immersed in the parade to go back to trying to hold a conversation. "I still need to pick something out for two of my brothers, and a few friends." She nodded, her eyes once more drifting from Jessie to the parade. She was like a little kid, trying to take in everything around her, those eyes of hers wide with excitement and joy. Oh yes, it may not have been Christmas yet, but Debra certainly had the holiday spirit. Her gaze flooded over the scene with a never ending sense of wonder.

It felt like people here in Fantasia was more into christmas then people were in Texas. Maybe it was because it never really got cold and snow in Texas. Yeah, sure Texas was great.. But it sucked celebrating christmas when it was almost 80 degrees outside. It was strange, but it was what Jessie was used to, but then again.. She was happy to try something new. And to be quite honest, Jessie was fed out with Texas. At least for a while.
Jessie cared deeply for Debra. They were good friends and Jessie was happy for that. They were pretty much alike. Then Debra hugged her back and asked her how she had been. "Just dandy! Hanging with Buzz and Woody, so life is pretty darn perfect! How about ya?" She said with a great smile and nodded. It was true. In the nearest future, Jessie had to introduce Debra to Buzz and Woody. Jessie had been telling a lot about them, but Debra still haven't met them. And that was wrong.
Jessie knew she was a bit more attached to the outdoor life than Debra was, but that just made them even better friends. If you befriended a true copy of yourself it wouldn't last longer than two minutes. At the least. And Debra was one of the few girls Jessie clicked with. Her and Arielle actually. In Jessie's opinion, girls were boring. But it depended on what type you were. And when you were the type that loved to climb trees and get your hands dirty you sort of appealed more to boys. And Jessie had no problem with that. Edward, Buzz and Woody were her best friends!
Then Jessie started listening to what Debra had to say. It all sounded pretty great. The whole idea of going to a parade like this with family. Jessie wished she had had some more caring parents, who wanted the best for her. But she didn't wanted to spoil the great mood. Besides, she hated thinking about it. Gently she shook her head with a small smile and looked up at Debra. "That sounds pretty darn nifty! I'm glad I'm going to experience it with you!" Jessie said with a smile. Snow in Texas? Jessie giggled slightly at the thought. "As far as I know.. It haven't been snowing as long as I have lived there. We are used to having like.. 80 degrees on Christmas Eve." Jessie said and shrugged. It was sad, really. But it allowed her to go for a horse-back ride whenever she wanted and not having to worry about Bullseye would fall because of the slippery roads.
Jessie had forgotten all about her clothes. It was pretty christmas-y and it had been a blast picking it out. The hat and the sweater was new. Jessie laughed at what Debra said. "Oh thank you, Debra! It bought in a toy shop!" She said and smiled and decided to let it stay on. They were at a christmas parade, so why not! Christmas shopping?! Jessie hadn't given that a thought yet. Shoot! "Shoot ma horse and paint me green! I haven't thought about buying anything yet! But maybe we could go together? Then you can help me out." Jessie suggested and slapped her forehead. She felt stupid right now, but she hoped that Debra would help her out.
