"Ma chère mademoiselle. It is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that we welcome you tonight." - Lumiere
NAME: Remi Gaspard Lumiere NICKNAMES: Lumi AGE: 25 BIRTHDAY: February 14, 1986 ORIENTATION: Straight NATIONALITY: French OCCUPATION: Maitre D' at DA DETE HOTEL PLAYED BY: Alex Pettyfer DISNEY: Lumiere - Beauty and the Beast USER GROUP: Sex Symbol
PERSONALITY !
CHARMING! It can easily be said that upon meeting Remi Lumiere, one can assume that there wasn't a thing in the world that the man couldn't achieve. This wasn't because he was intimidatingly muscular or deviously cunning - but because he had to be, with out a doubt, one of the most charming personalities on the planet. Blessed with rapier wit and a dashing smile, it was hard to resist the man - or what ever it might be that he was lobbying for. With many years of practice with such a handy weapon, he is known as the man that could not only get any woman he wanted, but talk nearly any one into nearly anything (the only exception of course being his best friend "Cogsworth"). And it wasn't as if the person being persuaded sported a shred of remorse for swapping sides...People didn't follow Remi's word because he was always necessarily correct. People followed Remi's word because Remi was the kind of guy you wanted liking you.
ROMANTIC! Although many may see the term "ladies man" as a negative or derogatory term, it was the only word that seemed to adequately fit the french man's interaction with the opposite sex. The major difference though between most men who find themselves bedding half of the women in town versus Remi Lumiere was that, well, it wasn't bedding women at all. It was romancing them. Always a fan of the red wine and candle light, since birth he had been a man of romance. So much so that his reputation preceded him with the ladies and it was almost an honor to be seduced by a man of his stature. A night on the town with Lumiere wasn't just a simple few drinks at the bar. Oh non, non. There was a home cooked dinner for two complete with candle light and roses, an evening stroll under the stars, and hand made chocolates for dessert near the fire. To him it was simple - he wasn't just running around town to sleep with every thing for the sensation, he was just simply searching for his soul mate, for what was life with out true love?
REBELLIOUS! Although a loyal and trustworthy companion, the frenchman had never been one to take orders. Or, well, at least strict orders with very little reason backing them. Having been raised in a household with very little rules other then to watch his father crumble, Remi had always had a small problem with authority. His reckless spontaneity, was well known amongst his friends when it came to certain situations and most of the time supported (ex: whether or not Christmas trimmings are allowed during the holidays at the hotel regardless of what the owner says)...though not always. Sneaking into the coat room with attractive female patrons of the restaurant during his shift on guard was not - although it was part of his ever notorious charm.
QUIRKS: Remi possesses an odd affinity for fire and/or candles. He always carries around a lighter in his pocket and has a poor habit of setting things on fire just to marvel at its beauty.
LIKES: cooking, roses, red wine, french maid outfits, romance, candle light, laughter, hosting lavished dinners, women, spontaneity, christmas trimmings, friends DISLIKES: schedules, anxiety, heart break, eating dinner alone, pretty women in trouble, strict orders, his best friends boyfriend, being rejected, politics
HISTORY !
Remi Lumiere’s start in life was surrounded by romance. His parents were married in a simply gorgeous garden ceremony in Paris. If the setting wasn’t romantic enough, the date was sure to get people talking- Valentine’s day. It wasn’t exactly the most unique day, but it was sweet and romantic all the same. A year later, their son was born on their anniversary. It was already such a special day, so the arrival of their son just made it all so much sweeter. Remi spent the first few years of his life in bliss. Living in a nice apartment in Paris, with his seemingly loving parents. To everyone, they seemed like the perfect family. But looks could often be deceiving.
To the surprise of friends and family, on a cold afternoon in spring, Remi’s world changed dramatically. The weather should have been an ominous sign, really. It was far too cold for that time of the year. However that wasn’t something a five-year-old considered. He’d spent the morning at a friend’s house, on what he later found out was a strategically planned play date. By the time he was dropped off that afternoon, his mother had packed up her things and left the house. No one could really tell him why, but he later found out that despite appearances, it had actually been a long time coming. His parents hadn’t been as happy as they had seemed.
Unable to face it all, his father picked up his life and moved himself and his son to Fantasia City. While his life wasn’t altogether horrid in Fantasia, it seemed his father was only getting worse. For a while, the man started to make a life for himself. He gained employment as a Matre D of a hotel’s restaurant, and even made friends with the owners. However as time wore on, he lost something. Something Remi could only describe as his passion. It seemed clear to Remi that loosing the love of his life had ruined his father. That was when he decided that the only way to save himself from the same fate was to spend his days enjoying everything the female species had to offer - all in hopes of finding the one.
In his teenage years he started working at the hotel for some extra cash, then full time after he graduated. It was then that he made himself a new family. Cogsworth became the brother he loved to bate and the rest of the staff filled more gaps in his life. It felt like family for most people who worked at the hotel. For Remi, the glue that held that family together was Caitlyn Potts. The young woman started working at the hotel when she first moved to Fantasia, and soon became the one who looked after everyone, made sure they were fed, did the right thing, and more importantly felt loved. It seemed just as they had reached an ideal closeness in their relationship, things shifted. Caitlyn started dating someone, and Remi hated it. He wasn’t jealous, he assured himelf- after all, he had Babette, and he and Caity still got to snuggle. It was more that she wasn’t happy. In his eyes, this guy brought his best friend more pain and angst then anything else. What was he supposed to do though? She was in love.
SAMPLE !
Just like a writer, he thought to himself, rolling his eyes as she mentioned shaking his hand - don't want to get dirty unless it meant brushing the dust off of their conventional keyboard. Primadonna's. He wiped his hands off-handedly onto his jeans once again, rubbing his calloused hands together as she spoke. Maybe they did need to be cleaned...but after. Anything that made this harpie find him revolting was necessary at this point. Wait. No. Dammit, Killian shut his eyes in frustration with himself. Be nice. She was a stranger, at this point, and nothing good ever came out of judging a book by it's cover. Or so, the saying went. Maybe she was something more than a pretentious fiction writer who gushed for Shakesperean writing and debated upon punctuation placement. Maybe she was an artist.
He laughed, lowly. Yeah. Ok. No.
"Killian," His irish accent was prominent as he used his introductory statement to cover his off-handed chuckle, "Killian Reagan. There's no need to tell me you're here for a story, by the way. I can tell you're a writer by your articulate stuttering." Maybe it was a little rough of an intro, but he plastered on a smile to hide what ever doubt he had in it. After all, he was joking...Kind of. Sort of. It wasn't like people hadn't given him shit for being an artist when out in public and covered in paint. Judging by the way her eyes widened as she turned around and the look on her face as she recognized him, she probably expected nothing less from him then some hurtful kind of remark, "Maybe you should get a dictionary, first though? Just a suggestion..."
He noticed how she tried to catch his eye, then brought it upon his work, his stomach some what fluttering and torquing itself at the same time. Was he really that intimidating that she couldn't look at him? Or was it something else? And why was she so interested in other people's work...Bloody writers. It was funny how they worked on a different level than actual artists...Always stealing from other people's work. As she mentioned "her," he turned instinctively towards his piece to eye it over, Kae's softer tone as she spoke satisfying him and reinteresting him in it once more. He scoured it over - half of the action being of a critic to inspect it once more for his own good, the other half a bit nervous to let her see it half done...almost as if he cared about what she thought of "her." Almost.
After what seemed like an eternity of staring into the eyes of the charcoaled woman, he scrambled to find the right words for a reply, "I don't know." It was the best he could come up with, Killian's voice lowered as well as he looked back at Kae to explain himself. Of course he knew what gave him the inspiration for it, but he wasn't about to tell some complete stranger about that, now was he? No. That's not what art was. The meaning of art was, well, that was the glorious thing. There was no meaning. It was all about the artists portrayal, and the viewers interpretation. With that in mind, he posed his next question on the obtrusive writer, "If you were me, what would be your inspiration for a piece like this?"
