[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,315,true] Steele wasn’t really sure what had attracted him to the zoo. To be honest, he had just needed a location he could hang about at that wasn’t completely awkward if you stayed all day. There were only so many coffees a guy could sit and drink at a cafe alone, without people thinking you were weird and creepy. And there wasn’t really many other options. He could sit and read in a park, but then he wasn’t a huge reader. Shopping wasn’t his thing, and the movies made it impossible to ‘bump into’ someone. He needed a place that he could roam around all day without looking like a freak, in the hopes that a certain girl, wait, woman would reply to his text and come meet him. And it had to seem perfectly casual. Like he would have been there anyway even if he hadn’t of invited her. Though, that was for her sake more than his.
He was a ladies’ man (or a man’s man, depending on the situation..), and Steele wasn’t shamed into hiding that. He also made sure his intentions weren’t hidden. If he went on three dates in a week, all parties involved knew of the others. It was always really casual with him, until he found someone he wanted more with, and then he was sure to inform anyone he had been casually seeing that he was no longer on the market. It was how he was. Call him a tramp, but he’d never cheated on anyone once the choice was made to be exclusive. He knew full well how to be monogamous. However, while looking for that someone, why limit yourself? The more people you got to know, the closer you got to finding that one person you wanted to be with.
The young man found though, that people didn’t seem to mind. When he was out on a date with you, or even just hanging out with you, he was with you. He didn’t text anyone, or seem distracted. He made you feel like you were the most important thing to him, even if it was just for that moment. Full of complements, Steele knew how to make someone feel pampered and loved up. And the thing was, he meant them all, too. He wasn’t one to use empty words just to woo someone. He found things he liked and admired in a person and used that to flatter them. He never needed to lie with complements, as he believed there was something worthwhile in anyone. Even if at first he can’t see it, Steele has always been big on second chances. It probably explained why so many people loved hanging out with him, because he made them feel just grand.
Everyone, that was. Except a certain girl he was rather taken with. Teresa wasn’t like other girls. While he loved the soft and feminine ones for sure, she was something else entirely and it intrigued him. The thing was, she wasn’t falling for his usual charm. Kissing her hand and calling her beautiful and all that stuff... it just wasn’t working for him this time, and he wasn’t sure what else to try. He’d never had to try anything else, had he? So it wasn’t a surprise he had no new material. When you had a winning game, you didn’t need new plays. Determined as ever though, Steele was sure he could crack her. He just needed to figure out how. He just needed to get her to see him, give him a chance for some face to face contact.
So, he had sent her a very casual text, that if she wanted to finish the conversation they were having (the night at the party when they had met, they’d gotten into a debate about music, now it was an ongoing thing) that he’d be at the zoo, you know, if she wanted. Now all he had to do was wait and hope she’d show. Dressed casually in jeans and a winter coat, he was lingering around the monkey enclosures. Half-heartedly snapping photos. Really, he was more a feline person then a primate person, but all the leopards and tigers had been asleep, which was boring. There were only so many minutes you could stand and watch an animal curled up so its face was next to its bum. And Steele had exceeded that more than an hour ago. So monkeys it was. At least the baboon looked mildly interesting.
