"No, I'm the one who should be sorry. I was so ready to get out, so ready to taste that ocean, I was willing to put you in harm's way to get there. Nothing should be worth that. " - Gill
NAME: Gregory Lucas Gillson NICKNAMES: Greg, Gill AGE: 24 BIRTHDAY: March 3rd ORIENTATION: Heterosexual NATIONALITY: European OCCUPATION: Marine biologist and occasional pet store worker PLAYED BY: James Franco DISNEY: Gill - Finding Nemo USER GROUP: Probably Wise Mentor in a way, though he is also quite sexy
PERSONALITY !
BORN LEADER! Being the leader of the Tank Gang, Greg likes to think that he was born a leader. He often opts to lead his group in various expeditions for marine biology and he simply loves being in charge. Even if no one else in the group wants him to take charge, nothing can stop him from standing straight and tall and barking out orders. He often asserts himself to take charge, even in circumstances when he has no clue what he is doing. He loves to be at the front of any line and takes great pride in being the leader of a winning team. Often his leadership involves exclusion of other people but that never really worries him. His groups, mainly the Tank Gang, are usually rather exclusive and he makes sure that everyone in that group sits well with him. If Gill doesn’t like you, then you are out, end of story. PROUD! A leader always seems to carry around pride with him. Gill is no exception to this rule. He if a very proud man and this trait usually gets in the way of everything. That old saying ‘swallow your pride’ has no effect on him whatsoever. There are only a small group of people that he would ever swallow his pride for and even then, he may not in the end. He is always boasting of his various talents and triumphs and tries to make it the topic of many conversations. To him, pride is everything and it runs his life. He will keep his pride no matter what and so far, he has stuck to that completely. INTELLIGENT! Anyone doing science would have to be smart? Or were biologists the stupid ones? Either way, Gill seems to have inherited some brains, which he will insist he did not receive from his father. Still, Greg seems to be a rather smart cookie. He is a marine biologist so he has a knack for remembering all the different kinds of fish and their characteristics. Most would say that he would be the top of his class if he actually bothered to try a little harder. Even during high school he was never bothered and was simply seen as a delinquent. And yet, he is very good at what he does. He holds random facts about various fish species in his head and loves using them to pick up girls or simply to strike up random conversation. VAIN! Gregory Gillson likes to think he is the best. At everything. He is often boasting about all the things that he has managed to do in such a short lifetime and he is rather vain about it. His pride goes to his head and his mouth spits out words of wonder. Most of what comes out of his mouth is exaggerated to go along with that vain personality of his. Most people probably don’t listen to him much but he always flatters himself and likes to think that people hang on his every word. Gill will do anything to one-up the other guys in the Tank Gang and even complete strangers. He likes to think that he is good –even great – at everything, and no one has had the guts to tell him otherwise just yet. HARD! One thing that Greg makes sure of is that no one gets close to him. There are a few people – those in the Tank Gang – that are close to him and they are the only people that have ever managed it. On the surface, Greg maintains his tough guy attitude and he does not let anyone get closer to him. This leads him to distancing himself from other people quite a bit, leading to a rather lonely life. Of course, what else could he need besides the Tank Gang and his fish? He tries to trick himself into actually believing that not letting anyone get close is the only option he had and so far it had worked. Still, every now and then he does get that lonely feeling which leads him to wish that he had more than what he got. Gill would never do anything about this, but he can’t help but wonder what life would be like if he did not have that hard outer shell.
QUIRKS: - He drinks a lot of water, in fact, he never leaves the house without water. - He has a strange obsession with fish. His work is involved with fish, he spends every other hour at the pet shop looking at fish. He also has a very high tech aquarium at his house.
LIKES: Fish, the ocean, swimming, boats, surfing, science, women, flirting, drinking, leather jackets, the beach, the pet store, marine biology aka his job, the tank gang DISLIKES: Guys that are smarter than him, being proved wrong, his father, cats, enclosed spaces (though he'd never admit it), the news, romantic music, the rain, weakness, rugby, dentists, kids
HISTORY !
On March the third, a baby boy was born. His name was Gregory Lucas Gillson. He was named after his great, great grandfather although the child never knew him. Still, he considered it a rather strange honour to be named after that old man. He was eventually the oldest of three children, the middle child being another boy and the youngest being a girl. The middle child, Harry, and Greg were only three years apart and got along very well. They often played together however Greg always wanted to take charge and be the leader, something that Harry was not very happy with. Lucy, the youngest, was very small and quiet and simply liked to watch the two boys bicker.
Gill’s father, Andrew, was not a very nice man. He was a big drinker and had obviously not hung out with the right crowd during his adolescence. He often came home drunk and tired and took his anger out on Greg’s mother, Casey. Greg was young, only about six or seven, when he first saw his father hit his mother. He certainly did not like that; he also did not like it whenever his mother cried. Greg silently wondered whether his father would soon turn on the other children and start hitting them. So from that age he decided that he would protect his mother and his siblings from his father. Of course, he could not do this whilst he was only young and small, so instead he made those plans for when he was older and could carry them through.
When Gill reached the age of fourteen he started to fight back. His father had been away for a few weeks, for reasons that were never disclosed. As soon as Andrew got back it was evident that he was drunk. He was talking to Casey about something and obviously said something that upset her because the next moment she was screaming and he was making a grab for her. Greg heard the shouts and told his younger siblings to stay in their rooms. Running down into the kitchen he tried to wrestle his father away from his mother. His father knocked him away and in doing so, pushed Greg towards the stove. There was something cooking on the stove and the pot was knocked over, Greg’s right arm exposed to the flame. His father realised what he had done and fled the scene, whilst Casey tried to patch things up.
After those events, Gill retained a large scar on his right arm and found it difficult to use it a lot. Over the next few months he taught himself to write with his left hand, although it was not too easy. He tried to build up the strength in his right hand although the doctors told him that it might not be too possible. Despite that, Gill never let it get in the way of what he was doing and he continued to do his best even with the injury. He was always self-conscious about the scar but tried not to let it get to his heart. That was when the hard wall started forming and he started to distance himself from everyone else around him. His mother filed out an AVO and his father was removed. Gill never saw him again, and he was glad of it too.
High school came and he was not prepared. It was freshman year when he first discovered the aquarium outside the marine biology rooms. It was huge and there were so many different fish inside it. He loved their bright colours and the way they moved so easily through the water. Gill took to sitting outside the fish tank every lunch and he stuck mainly to himself. After the first month, another man came and asked to sit with him. This man too seemed to admire the fish and Greg did not see too much of a problem with it. Soon there were a few more with them, both male and female, and though Gill was at first uncomfortable with it, he slowly got used to the company of those few people.
Sophomore year went slowly and only one or two more additions came into their small gang. People around them started calling them the Tank Gang due to the fact that they hung out in the lobby of the marine biology department, next to the fish tank that Gill had discovered the year before. He liked that name and so encouraged the rest of the group to use it. The people who joined them were those that did not fit in anywhere else, the ‘misfits’ of the school.
Junior year saw the addition of another of the few girls into the Tank Gang. Her name was Debra and Gill took a strange liking to her. He often thought he saw her talking to her reflection but he just assumed it was him being crazy and left the topic unmentioned. The group continued to grow closer and Gill secretly loved the company. It was a great group of people in his opinion and he was perfectly happy where he was. He majored in marine biology, determined to study the ocean more thoroughly, become more aware about the wonderful fish. He was often caught staring at the fish tank and just watching the little creatures swimming around, wondering what it would be like if he too were a fish.
Senior year and there was one final addition to the group. Ned. Greg liked Ned and there was no disguising that. The kid was cute, sweet, and seemed rather reluctant about everything. So Gill took him under his wing, so to speak, and tried to help him out however he could. Still, Gill was never really good at the whole touchy-feely thing and so he let the others in the group deal with that part.
Senior year ended and Greg was off to do what he loved best, study the sea. He never really kept in touch with the rest of the Tank Gang, though he wishes he had. He loves doing what he does but he still wishes that he could see his gang again and feel as close to them as he had before. He misses everything there, Ned and Debra and everyone else. That’s why he’s back in Fantasia, because he hopes to reconnect with everyone else. One thing that Gill has failed to take not of is the fact that nothing ever happens how he wants it to.
