"Riff raff, street rat, I don’t buy that. If only they’d look closer. Would they see a poor boy? No siree! They’d find out there’s so much more to me.." - Aladdin
NAME: Aladdin Ali Ababwa NICKNAMES: Al, Ali AGE: Eighteen BIRTHDAY: October 5th, 1992 ORIENTATION: Straight NATIONALITY: American OCCUPATION: High School Senior PLAYED BY: Luke Pasqualino DISNEY: Aladdin USER GROUP: Hero
PERSONALITY !
CHARMING! Aladdin is rarely prone to nervousness. He has a way with words, especially around the ladies. In his hometown he was notorious for stealing (and breaking ) many hearts. Often his friends would come to him for advice with women. He’s often berated by his mother for his philandering ways. Besides being a ladies’ man, Aladdin is very easy to talk to and isn’t shy around crowds. Making friends has come fairly easy to him, due to his charismatic nature. He’s not a comedian but he can tell a good joke every once in a while, if only to break the ice. He’s not necessarily the life of the party, but he certainly knows how to have a good time. With this charm comes compassion, and he's a very good listener. Often he'll go out of his way to help others that are in trouble, even if it costs him.
INSECURE! Aladdin isn’t always all smiles. Externally he puts up a guise of being self-confident and charismatic, but he never shares his deepest thoughts with other people. He’s reluctant to let others know how he’s feeling, and can sometimes come off as jaded and rude. The truth is that he’s slow to trust others, and yet he’s eager to get other people to trust him. Though he seeks to surround himself with friends, in truth he feels very alone, partly because he’s never known his father. Over the years he’s tried to fill the void with girls and by building up his notoriety at his old high school.
CLEVER! Although his grades aren’t necessarily the best, Aladdin is very witty in his own right. He possesses street smarts thanks to all the trouble he’s gotten into over the years. He’s a master storyteller, able to weave an implausible tale up in a matter of seconds. In other words, he’s an excellent liar. He’s been able to talk his way out of a trip to juvenile hall numerous times. As far as his education goes, his strongest subjects are English and history. History has always intrigued him, as it is his goal to become an archaeologist. ROMANTIC! Deep down inside, Aladdin’s a hopeless romantic. He’s had several failed relationships, but he’s never fallen hopelessly in love. As he tells his friends, he doesn’t plan to. However, he sincerely hopes that one day he’ll find ‘the one’—someone who’d truly understand him. He believes that his mother and father were like this at some point, and he does want what they had. While falling in love isn’t one of his biggest priorities at the moment, the desire to love and be loved is still in the back of his mind.
REBELLIOUS! Aladdin is far from being a goody-two shoes. In fact, he’s quite the opposite. He was the kid his classmates’ mothers told them to stay away from. He finds no pleasure in work, which accounts for the various times he’s been fired from odd jobs. He’d prefer having a night on the town with his friends and his motorcycle over doing homework any day. He’s determined to be his own person and doesn’t care what anyone else thinks—save for his mother. Sometimes he does regret his impulsive decisions, as he fears making her feel ashamed of him.
QUIRKS: Aladdin can’t dance. Whenever he takes a girl out for a date he always seems to find an excuse not to go dancing.
If someone asks him about his father, he’ll either ignore the question or blatantly change the subject.
He has an unusual knack for juggling.
He has an irrational fear of snakes.
LIKES: Motorcycles, sports cars, skateboarding, baklava, Italian food, playing guitar, wrestling, basketball, football games, girls
DISLIKES: School, homework, dancing, work, snakes, law enforcement, being judged, detention, principals, mystery meat
HISTORY ! Aladdin Ali Ababwa was born to Cassim and Alimah Ababwa on October 5th, 1992 in New York City. Aladdin was a bright and energetic child, and from an early age had an adventurous disposition. His parents couldn’t get him to sit still, everyday there was always something new for him to discover. The small family was poor and struggled to make ends meet, but they were happy. Unfortunately, their bliss was short-lived. When Aladdin was five years old, Cassim, who was an archaeologist, left home in pursuit of a grand artifact he referred to as ‘the Hand of Midas.’ However, his father never returned. Both Aladdin and his mother were heartbroken, but Alimah continued to have hope that her husband would return someday.
The absence of his father hurt Aladdin deeply. He was always the kid whose dad never showed for school functions, and was often jealous of his friends who did have both of their parents. One day he asked his mother if his father would ever come back, to which she replied, “Soon, my little Ali, soon.” He tried to think optimistically, but eventually he realized that Cassim was never coming back, and concluded that he was dead. As much as he wanted to believe his mother, the probability that his father was still alive decreased as the years went by. The boy tried to lose himself in sports in order to get his mind off of his father. He was determined to be the best, and to make his mother proud of him.
As he grew older, it became apparent that the lack of a father figure had taken a toll on Aladdin. He’d never been a perfect little angel, but as he entered his teenage years he developed a knack for getting into trouble. He fell in with the wrong crowds and began smoking and drinking. However, it was when one of his so-called ‘friends’ was killed in a drunk driving accident that he made the decision to sober up. Still, his mother was disgraced by his actions. She denounced him, and for the second time in his life his heart broke. For a while they went for weeks without speaking, even though Aladdin had vowed to kick his detrimental habits.
In order to prove that he was capable of taking responsibility for himself, Aladdin applied for his first job—as a janitor at a fast food joint. It wasn’t his greatest ambition but it was money. When he got his first paycheck he handed it straight to his mother, who looked at the envelope blankly for a few minutes before seizing him in a tearful embrace. Ever since then, he’s been working harder on his childhood ambition to please his mother. He’s slipped up a few times, and has gotten fired from a few jobs for shirking off the work, but he’s still determined to do his share for what’s left of the Ababwa family.
In the middle of Aladdin’s senior year, Alimah was let go from her job as a nurse and she and her son moved to Fantasia City, where she has taken a new job at the local hospital. Aladdin is currently enrolled at Larson High School.
SAMPLE ! Aladdin Ababwa revved up the engine of his Harley-Davidson and zoomed out of the school parking lot. Finally! he thought in relief. The whole day he’d felt as if he was going to die of boredom. The only class he tolerated was history—and that was because he wanted to become a world-famous archaeologist and restore the family name. Or rather, make a name for the family. He was a second-generation American, as his grandfather had run away from Saudi Arabia to New York City. They’d made him change his name to..Anderson or something, but as soon as he got in he changed it right back. Personally, he loved his surname. The only annoying thing was he always had people asking him where he was from, to which he’d reply shortly, ‘New York.’
He’d been born and raised in the Bronx, and thus had the stereotypical tough disposition that was expected of all those who hailed from the region. He scoffed at the belief that all New Yorkers were like this, because they weren’t. It was just like any other city, just…bigger. Not that he’d been to that many other cities—because he hadn’t. His mother just couldn’t afford travel, and he never asked, though secretly he dreamed of seeing the world. Like Dad did.. As soon as the thought of his father entered his mind he regretted it. Both he and his mother had come to an agreement ( for his sake ) not to mention his father. Of course, she’d ended up breaking her promise on numerous occasions, but from her he could take it. What he couldn’t take was the endless inquiries, ‘What does your father do, Al?’ and the boasting, ‘My father is a lawyer.’ Yeah, well my father is dead. He’d come to terms with it years ago but not a day went by when he didn’t think of his father, if only a little.
He shook his head as he pulled into the driveway of the small house his mother had rented. He stashed his motorcycle in the garage and after unlocking the door, left his backpack in a chair and headed up to his room. It was small with not much space, but the window had a beautiful overview of the city. He opened it and leaned his elbows on the sill, inhaling the fresh spring air. It wasn’t as cold here as it was in New York, which he was grateful for. He’d never really been a cold weather person, but he’d learned to deal with it for eighteen years. He stared out over the city, getting lost in its picturesque buildings and skyscrapers. He didn’t know how long he’d been doing this until his stomach rumbled as an indication. He smiled faintly, finally shaken out of his daydream of a better life, as he shut the window and hurried downstairs for an afternoon snack.
