PERSONALITY !
SLIGHTLY NEUROTIC! Well perhaps that isn't the best word to describe him, it does have such a nasty connotation to the phrase but it's true sometimes. When in the middle of a thought, he can't stand to be interrupted. If he has something he is doing, he is completed fixated on it until the job is done. He can manage with just about anything, however when faced with his greatest fears he isn’t one to follow the whole “grace under pressure” idea. He has a bad habit of cursing a lot already, but when he’s in a scenario that isn’t where he wants to be, he’ll use just about every curse word possible. Its not out of hate for whoever has places him in that scenario, its mainly out of expressing what he doesn’t want to be in and hopefully drawing attention to the fact that he doesn’t want to be there.
RECKLESS! His reckless side brings out his cockiness by far; it’s almost a facade at times. He’s a bit of a daredevil, he doesn’t mind balancing on the edge of life and death. It’s the extreme part of him, but he does know when it is too much. Even if he may seem like he doesn’t care if he lives or dies in a flash, really he wouldn’t do it if he didn’t think it over before he did it. Of course he doesn’t want to seem too careful but still he likes that edge he gives off when people give him a crazy look as they wonder what in the hell is he doing and why he isn’t dead yet. However he knows his limits and doesn’t try to exceed them. In a moment where he is being a little more rowdy than usual, he tries to have a handle on the situation, if he’s being wild he doesn’t like to have anybody being wilder because who knows what could happen. When his self-serving behaviors kick-in and if he does succeed in whatever he is doing, he will often become too confident. The main disadvantage of his focus has to be his inability to see things that may be danger signals ahead. Though confidence is a good thing, there are times where the saying "ruin, folly, delusion," comes into action. His confidence often gets the best of him and therefore leads to a future downfall, however he will never admit his defeats. Instead he will do whatever it takes to correct his failures or do whatever it takes to get the blame off of him and on somebody else so he will not get in trouble.
CARING! There is no way that he will ever stop worrying about the people he is closest to. It's just a habit, he tried not to let it be known but it's true. He's always thinking about what's best for them, what he can do to make a situation better, what they are doing. Anything and everything. In a moment where there may be some sort of threat, he tries to have a handle on the situation. Checking out the situation, trying to figure out things in the ‘just in case’ situation. There are only a few people that can do that to him, mainly his mother, and if he found somebody he greatly cared about he would do it for them as well. When he finds somebody that he knows cares about him, he has no problem returning the favor. He will gladly stand beside somebody through anything. Though it can be somewhat of a downfall, he usually doesn't question too much of what they say and can somewhat walk blindly into a situation without taking too much time to analyze the situation from an unbiased standpoint. When it comes to people he cares about, there is just something instinctive that kicks in that makes him very protective over them. He doesn't know why, no matter if it's mentally protecting them or physically he'll do whatever it takes to keep them happy. If he sees anybody he cares about unhappy, he'll feel incredibly guilty and will do whatever he can to make them happy again.
MYSTERIOUS! There is a mystery behind him perhaps he is just one to hide most of his emotions away. Why? Well there wasn't really an explanation. He just didn't like to reveal any emotion he didn't have to. However he couldn't help but show his true feelings when there was a good reason to. The most emotion he'll ever show is through his lips. His joker smile shows exactly that he’s up to something. He may know what you know or he may not but that smile means that he'll find out and when he does it won't be good. In the middle of an intense moment he is the best at keeping a calm collected composure.
BAD TEMPERED! You are in a bad place if you are on his bad side. It takes a lot to redeem yourself; he isn't one to give second chances. If he does give you a second chance, you still aren’t off the hook. Once his trust is lost, he is very wary of trusting anybody for a while. He may act like everything is okay but he’ll always have an eye on you just in case anything is up. When he is at fault, which he'll rarely admit, he mainly ignores its. Occasionally he'll admit he was wrong but you have to be one of his friends or somebody he likes. And if you seriously piss him off? Well… Basil isn’t one to have mercy when it comes to dealing with somebody who has wronged him. Depending on who you are, you'll know if he is irritated or something of that sort. He may not act like he is at that very moment but he'll make it known that he is irritated, whether its with some sort of comment or gesture. Basil is never one to come right out and say he is irritated with you unless he is incredibly annoyed by you and can’t take anymore. Even if he does hate it he will put up with it for a certain amount of time before he really starts to get sick of it, then he'll just try and find a way out. Most of the time he can, but if he can't there's really not much he can do but just stay quiet and try to get through whatever it is.
QUIRKS: Never ever ever mess about with his things while he's in his intellectual fixated mood. Above all else that will just drive him even more crazy than he is already. It's a mental process, although from the outside things may look incredibly messy he really does know where everything is and can't stand to have it messed with in any way. On the few occasions that people have not just let his things be, he has gone a bit crazy and given up on the whole task all together for a few hours, then collected himself, then locked himself in his room with nothing but a case of beer and cigarettes for hours at a time.
LIKES: a good challenge, sports, classical music, cigarettes, caffeine, dogs, lazy sundays, reading detective novels, manners, allusions, magic tricks, superstitions, boxing, writing, attractive women, abstract art, philosophy
DISLIKES: alarm clocks, "i'm not mad i'm just disappointed", dancing, rules, hangovers, cats, most children, mixed drinks, instruction manuals, organization, silence, stereotypical romance, clingy girls, failure
HISTORY !
Growing up he never had any real issues going on in his life; there was never anything that really caused him to have a bad childhood. He doubts that there was ever anything wrong with it. The only thing that could have made it a bit difficult was his father coming and going thanks to work. His father was vice president in sales, a job that tended to keep him away on business for most of the time. It was hard for Basil having only his mother around but at times it was pretty nice since his father wasn't really the most pleasant man to be around when he was home. After all his father seemed to think that Basil should grow up strong, whenever Basil got hurt, his father would says "Are you bleeding? No? Then you're okay." Such such love.
As a child he spent much of his time reading, he enjoyed sports but when he needed time to be alone he'd often spend it either reading or listening to audio books. He supposed it made him a bit of a nerd but at least he managed to become a cultured child, which he finds is very rare in this world. His mother always tried to make him cultured, whether it was going to art museums or trips to other historic places to broaden his mind. Though there was a bit of a downside, he also got sent to cotillion to learn how to have proper etiquette and also ballroom dance. Ever since then he has never been too fond of dancing.
He was never one to enjoy school and he was often late to classes and never cared too much for his teachers. Unless his mother constantly watched him, he rarely did any homework unless he was interested in the subject. Even then he sometimes wouldn’t do it just because he would rather be doing something else. His favorite teacher was probably his English teacher in his junior year of school. She challenged him to open up his worldview and see more than just the text in the book and another homework assignment. Even after her class he still wasn’t too fond of school but he managed to graduate from school though he didn’t get as many acceptance letters for college thanks to his grades.
For college most of the time he spent it not really doing too much with his education, he didn't know what he wanted to do for the rest of his life - like a typical college student. He knew he didn't want to be anything boring and he didn't want to be tied down to something he had no idea if he'd like it for a long long long time. But college was fun, nothing like lots of parties and being lazy and then cramming for all his tests a few hours before he had to take them. So he went with something easy, liberal arts, a major that really does nothing but hey at least you get a degree out of it.
Once he got out though he really had no idea where to go in life. After writing a few stories for a local newspaper as a favor for a friend, he started to realize that he could possibly be good at it. He had always thought the idea of journalism would be fun. Though the downside of it was the writer's block. Deciding that maybe he needed to get out of his familiarity and go elsewhere he moved to Fantasia City in hopes to start over and maybe once again be inspired to write, and it get even more ambitious maybe even start a novel.
SAMPLE !
Walking through the park he wasn't really sure what to do or where to go. Taking out a cigarette he lit it and inhaled deeply, he knew cigarettes were bad for him and yet he couldn't quit...not like he had ever really tried. He could see from the looks people were giving him that he probably shouldn't be smoking, especially where there were little kids running around the park and stuff. But whatever, if they didn't like it than they could come up and say it to him instead of just resorting to dirty looks. He just smirked at them and continued his walk through the park, finally finding a nice shady spot underneath one of the trees. Letting out the smoke, he was feeling calm and relaxed for the first time in a while. It was a good feeling, a feeling he missed. And then it suddenly all went away, just when he was starting to enjoy it.
He stopped dead in his tracks, he couldn't believe what he was seeing. In fact, what he was looking at almost caused him to choke on the smoke of his cigarette. No, this couldn't be right. Was he going so crazy with self pity and misery that he was seeing the girl that broke his heart right in front of him? Was he going to start seeing her everywhere until he finally couldn't take it anymore? Maybe he was overreacting, yeah she was a girl he had liked, but breaking hearts wasn't really the right phrase now was it? How on earth could he ever let a girl in that close to ever do that to him? Making a slight crushing of his ego, but not something so dramatic as breaking his heart. Besides did he have much of a heart to break anyways? Since when had he ever show too much of his loving side anyways.
Surely he was just tired or something and the lack of sleep was getting to him and he was thinking these silly thoughts over some stupid girl. Coughing a little on the smoke, dear god his mind was trying to kill him. He closed his eyes for a moment and did his best to tell himself that he was being stupid, and that couldn't be her. It just couldn't, it would be the ultimate punishment if it was her. Taking a deep breathe as he tried to convince himself that there was no possible way it could be her. Opening his eyes once again, he tried to continue to walk, not daring to look over park bench where he had thought he had seen her. No no no no, he wasn't going to think these stupid thoughts about some girl he had known at one time. No, he had never fallen in love, he wouldn't allow himself to ever even think about that about some past relationship. That would lead to more negative thoughts and regrets and that just wasn't going to happen, he wouldn't let it happen. Not now and not ever was he going to let that happen.
See this was why he shouldn't even get into relationships with women, he should just have flings and not be in any sort of commitment whatsoever. Because then this drama happened afterwards, the whole crap about regret and feeling something that could resemble guilt maybe. It was just stupid, and it could be prevented if he just didn't let himself get close to anybody in particular. Plus with commitments came all that boyfriend stuff that was required, like going out and doing things and having to act all cute and lovable and basically following her around and as guys put it, 'being on a tight leash'. Yeah, that wasn't him and he wasn't ever going to let himself become that.
Although he really was trying to get rid of his negative thoughts, he hated this and he hated not being able to do anything about it. As much as he tried to tell himself he had nothing to stress over, there he was chain smoking all day and drinking all night. It was terrible, it was like being imprisoned by his own emotions. Never had he been like this before, most of the time he just did whatever the hell he wanted and that was it. But now that his emotions were creeping into his head he couldn't do anything or say anything without thinking about the reaction to it and who it would effect, it was quite annoying. He tried to remind himself he didn't need these stupid emotions, real men weren't supposed to care about this kind of stuff. He just needed to buck up and move on, even though it was really hard to do so.
