PERSONALITY !
BOOKISH ! Belle is a rather clever girl. She always has been really. From a young age she had always loved books. Fiction, None Fiction, anything she could get her hands on really. She loved and valued knowledge (still does, to be honest). As she grew older, her tastes were more swayed towards fiction. She loved the amazing places they described. Getting lost in far off places and the adventure of other lives soon became her most treasured past time. While she will read anything you suggest, Belle is something of a snob in her reading tastes. Preferring the classics. There is just something about the way authors used to write that excites her, enchants her spirit. It is those such books that instilled in Belle her love for far off places and adventure. She learned there could be so much more to life. And she wanted to experience it all. She’s always seeking more from life.
STUBBORN ! Belle has never been the sort of girl to just sit down and accept things. She knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to follow her own will over others. She’s never nasty or rude about it, rather just firm about her wishes. She’s never been one to let people walk all over her. Which is a good thing really. Of course there are times when she is content to let her own agenda go for someone else, but in these occasions it is still her choice. She tries to never compromise on her morals and values though, not just to make someone happy. If you know her weaknesses though, what she cares about, it could be rather easy to use those against her in order for submission. That only works to a degree though. She’s not silly enough to give in completely. Oh no, she’ll give you the very basics of your demands.
COMPASSIONATE ! Having such a big heart can be a blessing and a Burden, but really Belle likes to see it as a blessing. Even if sometimes it’s not. She cares about people openly. The brunette has never enjoyed seeing those she loves in pain or upset. Even as a small child she’d frown and attempt to comfort anyone in tears. Being open to people has never been an issue for Belle, if you seem worthy she’ll let you into her life and care for you. She’s also not above admitting she’s been wrong about a person. Sometimes her first impressions aren’t correct. There are moments when it could be argued that Belle is too compassionate. She can be describes as a martyr. Self sacrificing herself for others. Now I know what you are thinking; how does a stubborn martyr work? Well have you ever tried to talk someone out of doing something to save someone else?
CURIOUS ! Wide-eyed curiosity. It’s not an un-common way for the girl to be described. She is generally curious about the world around her and the different life experiences other people experience. Exploring new places has always been something she enjoyed. That is, of course, when she isn’t exploring a make believe place with her nose stuck in a book. In fact, she can be a little precocious with her curiosity. If you tell her no, or that she’s not allowed somewhere it only spurs her on further, wanting to know even more about the knowledge that is forbidden to her. That’s a fairly natural instinct though. Most people burn with even more desire when you bar them from the very thing it is that they are desiring after.
QUIRKS: It may be silly but for Belle, well loved books are like an old friend; a comfort to her. She never goes anywhere without a book.. In case there is any down time, you know? She can’t sleep at night if she hasn’t read the portion of Pride and Prejudice when Elizabeth and Darcy first meet. It’s one of her favourite love stories.
LIKES: Books, Literature, Roses, Snow, Fairy-tales, Simplicity, Family, Tea, Dresses, Did I mention reading?, Vintage things, The smell of old books, Pastel colours, Blue, Far off places, Slow dancing DISLIKES: Feeling trapped, Hum-drum life, Engagement proposals, Egos, Ill-manners, Seeing those she loves suffer, Extravagant gifts, Soda, Strawberry seeds, Cooked Apple, None Solid foods
HISTORY !
Raising a daughter is hard for a single father. Girls are different to boys; more sensitive, confusing. Martin Rosewood did an alright job though. The poor man had been on his own from the start, Belle’s mother having died during labour. Instead of allowing himself time for grief, the man threw himself into raising his daughter. He didn’t know a lot, but with a lot of love, and trial and error, the father and daughter muddled through. Not without a lot of comments like ‘huh, so that’s how you put on a diaper..’ and ‘Oh, you’re supposed put the powder in before you start the washing machine..’.
It was really just them against the world. Which resulted in the pair being especially close. Belle would hover around her father as he did the chores just to chatter with him and he’d read to her at night (and yell at her to turn her light out and stop reading way after her bed-time). For the most part they lived a happy life. Sure they never had much money but neither of them minded. They didn’t need money to be happy. He was clumsy in the first romance conversations and awkward when it came to discussing womanly things but it was really not a problem for either of them.
Until money became a problem. After school, Martin wanted Belle to attend college. The girl knew they couldn’t afford it and tried to pretend like she really actually didn’t want to go. Her father knew better to believe that though, and wanted to give his daughter more. So he went and borrowed the money from an old family friend- or well his son to be more correct. That was bad enough, being in the young man’s debt. However when Martin got sick and could no longer work, Belle found out about the loan, and took it upon herself to pay it back for her father, not to mention take one out herself to pay for his medical bills.
